General 

The SwitchBox-USB allows the input and switching off a electronic device via USB interface of 

a PC. Timer-controlled switching operations by the parallel and serial interfaces via the free of 

charge SwitchBox-USB service program (download on the antrax homepage) 

Before first use of the SwitchBox-USB, please read this instruction manual or the help file 

(found on our homepage). It contains information for the correct use and contains important 

tips for the installation of the SwitchBox-USB. The manufacturer does not accept any liability 

due to improper use of the unit. In this case all guarantee claims are invalid. 

Use of the SwitchBox-USB 

The SwitchBox-USB is intended for switching of resistive and inductive loads up to maximum 

2000W (230V/8.5A) in dry and closed housing space and offices. Activation may only be set up 

via the USB-bus. Operating instructions of the connected electronic devices and their safety 

regulations must be respected. 

Safety Instructions 

Caution 

� Do not open the SwitchBox-GSM. It contains no parts to be serviced by you. 

� Only use the SwitchBox-GSM indoors and do not subject the unit to moisture or 

humidity. 

� Only connect the SwitchBox-GSM to properly installed 230V AC outlets. 

� Only clean the exterior of the SwitchBox-GSM with a dry cloth after unplugging it 

from the electrical outlet and removal of the interface cable. 

� Do not overload the SwitchBox-GSM above its load specification level. An 

overload can lead to the SwitchBox-GSM being destroyed. 

� Do not use the SwitchBox-GSM in areas used by children. 

� Do not connect the SwitchBox-GSM to a computer that is already switched on. 

This can lead to computer components becoming damaged or destroyed. 

� Do not use the SwitchBox-GSM if one or several parts (case, cable, plug) are 

damaged or damage may be caused by its location (e.g., falling down). 

� The SwitchBox-GSM may only be repaired by authorized service personnel. 

� Only connect electrical appliances that have no limit to their switched-on time (i.e. 

all connected electrical appliances must be able to take continuous current without 

sustaining damage in the case of a default to the permanently “ON” position). 

� Never operate the SwitchBox-USB, if malfunction/error of the box may cause 

damage on people or material. 

� The load circuit is switched about a single-pole electrical relay, therefore even when the 

SwitchBox-USB outlet is switched to off there can still be a mains voltage on one of the 

outlet sockets! 

� When the SwitchBox-USB is controlled via a PC/computer, this device determines the

switching state of the load circuit during and after booting of the system. Depending on 

the behaviour of the used computer (or the BIOS), the operating system, device drivers 

for the interfaces and other programs, while booting short-term or permanent switching of 

the load is possible. The decisive switching state of the load is only achieved by the start 

of the SwitchBox-USB service program. 

� Very fast ON/OFF switching sequences can be controlled with the SwitchBox-USB. The 

duration of the switching cycles is to be adjusted to the controlled device. Not all 

electronic devices tolerate rapid switching sequences. 

� Independent from the previous switching state the SwitchBox-USB will always switch 

OFF the connected 230V consumer after a “Power-ON”.

Software 

The required driver ("SBOX_USB.DLL" and "USBaccess.DLL") an the free of charge software for 

controlling the SwitchBox-USB can be downloaded from our web page at www.antrax.de 

Installation of the SwitchBox-USB 

� Connectec the SwitchBox-USB to the USB-bus of the PC (the PC may be switched ON 

or OFF), however the SwitchBox-USB must not yet be connected to a 230V socket. 

� The PC recognises the USB SwitchBox as "USB Switch" and "HID" (human interface 

device). 

� Copy the two required drivers 

- SBOX_USB.DLL 

- USBaccess.DLL 

in the system directory (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32) to the 

PC. Additional drivers are not requested! 

� Start the service program "SwitchBoxUSB.exe". This program consists of only one file, no 

entries in the registry or elsewhere are ever made by starting this program, there is no 

"installation". The program can easily be copied to any subdirectories and be erased free 

of residues. 

� The service program displays all detected USB SwitchBoxes with their serial numbers. 

Select the serial number you want to switch from the list and use the "ON" / "OFF" 

buttons for the selected box. The LED of the SwitchBox-USB changes color depending on 

the current switching state: RED (=off) to GREEN (=on). 

� If everything works out fine: Plug the electronic device tot he SwitchBox-USB and 

connect the SwitchBox-USB into a 230V outlet.
