Unique promotional partnership
Local loaders who spearhead this community's
search (or new industry will have the opportunity
this afternoon to hear the highly successful state
industrial promotion program explained to them
by Horry Clark, executive director of the Texas
Industrial Commission.
Clark took hold of the Industrial commission
reins two years oro and has accomplished a tremendous
amount on a limited state budget.
Proof of his success Is that the state of Texas
ranked second among the 50 states last year In
attracting new Industry within Its borders.
Clark has developed a unique program to
attract Industry and that Is what he will explain
here this afternoon, as well as offer all the advice
he can on problems facing the local community.
His program Is really a partnership between
each community of Texas and the state, via the
state Industrial commission. At the state level,
the commission advertises the state's Industrial
potential and have done such a good Job of It.
The Dispatch. In extending Its congratulations
to local businessman James L. Minor upon his
election Saturday In San Antonio as president of
the 36th Division Association, knows that It Is
joined by hundreds of other of James' friends
In Post and throughout Gana County.
James ascended to the presidency of the
famed World War II fighting division from his
post as executive vice president.
The Post man has attended all reunions of
the 36th Division, also known as the "T-Patcorganization,
since his discharge from the outfit
with the rank of lieutenant-colone- l at the close
of World War II.
James, incidentally, Is one of the 36th Divi
Glad to see 'Antelope Boosters
The newly-organiz- Antelope Booster Club
Is one of the best things that has "happened" to
the sports program at Post High School In several
years.
Enthusiasm In the new organization Is higher
than It has been in any similar organization in 10
or 12 years. Much of this enthusiasm was visible
last Friday when members began donning and
wearing tholr new "Antelope Booster" hats.
The spirit has "been there" for the last three
or four years. You could sec It before every
game when large numbers or inns wouia go oui
onto the gridiron and help welcome the Antelopes
onto the field. But there was no organization behind
It. at least no organization with member
New FHA project commendable
There Is an affinity between youth and eld
age, and some of tho happiest moments for residents
of Post's two rest homes come when they
receive visits from the town's young people.
During the lost few years, youth groups here.
Including the Girl Scouts and some of the church
organizations, have visited our senior citizens
In the rest homes, either in groups or individually.
The newest organization to adopt such n project
Is the Future Homemakers of America chapter
at Post High School, as reported on the school
vertising campaigns.
The inquiries the state Industrial eommtssten
recetvos are put on a prospect list or a "suspect
list" as Clark calls It. The list Is made available
to each and every community which wants to
follow up the Inquiry and attempt to sell the advantages
of that particular community or area.
We've heard Clark before and he Is blunt
about the fact that his organization has no time
or patience with communities who don't make
their own effort to attract Industry.
"There are too many Texas towns or cities
which work hard for new Industry to spend time
with those which don't," Clark has said before,
and probably will say again this afternoon .
The state Industrial commission will work
closely with all communities who are organlxed
and trying to find Industry.
This will be Post's first full look at opportunities
afforded down In Austin by the Texas Industrial
Commission. It Is a story well worth the
hearing. JC
sion's most decorated fighting men. His medals
and other awards include Just about every war
decoration given by this nation and also by our
allies.
James, like most other returned
to a life of community activity following the war.
He has served Post as mayor, has served on the
school board and has taken a prominent part In
all civic activities, Including the Chamber of
Commerce and Rotary Club, and also in the
American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars
organization.
James L. Minor Is living proof of the axiom
that a good man can serve his nation and his
community equally well in war and peace. CD
ship open to everyone.
The 46-5- 6 Club has done and Is continuing to
do a commendable Job In boosting the Antelopes
and has even tried to branch out to form a sort
of auxiliary club that would welcome all Antelope
boosters, regardless of whether they played football
from ' through '56, which Is necessary for
membership.
There Is plenty of room for both organizations
and plenty of work to be done when It comes to
supporting the high school athletics program. We
enn se no danger of them getting in each other's
wav. In fact, many of the 46-5- 6 Club members
belong to the new Antelope Booster organization.
CD
page In today's Post Dispatch. These girls and
their sponsors are to be commended for adopting
lueh a worthwhile project for the 1964-6- 5 school
year.
The residents of the rest homes will enjoy
the visits as much as the FHA girls enjoy making
them. When our younger generations works on
day-to-d- y
Mich projects as taking sunshine into the
life of the older generation, we're never
bothered by the question. "Where Is the younger
feneration headed?" CD
ITS EASY TO forget a holiday
whon you don't get the day off,
nnd that Is the reason I almost
forgot why tho flags were out In
front of the business places when
I came to work Monday morning,
which was Labor Day. Dut,
after n long weekend, if I'd taken
Labor Day off, Tuesday and Wednesday
would have been doubU
labor days.
The Man up the Street says
there arc so many medical shows
on TV these days, that a viewer
needs a first-ai- d kit Just to switch
channels.
NOW THAT school has started,
our cat Dlackie --spends musch of
his time watching the buses go
by. He likes football, but won't go
near the field on game nights because
there Is always at least one
smnrt-alcc- k dog roaming around
the gridiron.
The women, bless them, now lead
In another field: There arc 68,763
more women drivers than men
drivers In Texas. The same source
from which that Item came also
says that the latest Census Bureau
head-cou- shows Texas has replaced
Ohio as the fifth most populous
state with 10,300,000.
SOME WISE MAN once said that
15 apes punching at random on
typewriters would, In time, turn
out all the literature that ever
has been written. Well, here Is
what actually happened when
they tried It. Read with care; it
contains a little catch:
After they put the 15 apes In
front of the tyocwrlters there was
n long wait. The animals sat and
looked nt the machines and at the
paper on the rollers. There wns n
long pause, then each ape. one after
the other, leaned forward and
tyrwd a slnr.lc, different word.
The experimenter waited a long,
long time, nut after the one flurry
of activity, nothing happened. Fin-nll- v,
seeing that the ones had no
intention of continulnc he went towards
the typewriters.
The first ape had typed, NOW;
the second nne had typed IS: the
third one, THE; the fourth, TIME:
the fifth. FOR: the sixth ape. ALL:
the seventh, GOOD: tho eighth one.
PARTIES; the ninth. TO: the 10th,
COME; the 11th. TO; the 12th ape.
THE: the 13th. AID; the 14th. OF:
and the last ape had typed, MAN.
Prayer should never be taken out
of the public schools. That's the
only way some of us got through.
WE HAD COMPANY from DM-la- s
was In Dallas over the weekend
and our comoany thought they'd
SINCE I TRY to run Jokes to
plrase everybody, here Is one that
might reach some of those I haven't
pleased yet:
A man took his twin grandsons
to a store to buy each a suit When
they had tried on matching suits,
the clerk asked If they would like
to look in a mirror.
"That will not be necessary,"
their grandfather said. "They can
Ho one Is more important than
the Antelopes all the way, but
we can beat those Bearcats.
We shocked the sports world last
season by upsetting Hamlin, rated
number five, and I have enough
confidence in the '64 Antelopes to
propose the following:
Let tomorrow be "Get Number
One Day". Wherccvcr vou go nnd
whoever you meet, use that slogan.
Instead of your "HI", greet them
with "Get Number One". Start
the tremendous amount of spirit
we'd have by game time Friday
could we lose, no matter what the
score, if wc all had this kind of
spirit?
Let's be bcnlnd those fighting
