Commonly Used Terms and Acronyms<br />

The following terms and acronyms are commonly associated with <strong>pSO<strong>System</strong></strong> and<br />

appear in this manual.<br />

ASR See asynchronous signaloutine.<br />

asynchronous<br />

signal routine<br />

A function within an application that executes in response to an<br />

asynchronous signal.<br />

callout A function that a device driver uses to notify a <strong>pSO<strong>System</strong></strong> component<br />

of an interrupt event. A callout is called from an ISR.<br />

FD File descriptor.<br />

FLIST A contiguous sequence of blocks used to hold file descriptors on a<br />

pHILE+ formatted volume.<br />

ISR See interrupt service routine.<br />

A function within an application or device driver that takes control<br />

of the system when the CPU has been triggered with an exception<br />

from an external source.<br />

KI See kernel interface.<br />

kernel interface A user-provided communication layer between nodes in a multiprocessing<br />

NFS Network file system.<br />

NI Network interface.<br />

RSC See remote service call.<br />
