Meatballs and Cornflakes<br />

Just for fun, when spaghetti and meatballs are on the lunch menu, place a spoon<br />

and a fork next to the children’s plate.<br />

Encourage the children to try to pick up a meatball with the spoon. What happens?<br />

Now try it with a fork.<br />

Talk about how spoons and forks help us to eat different foods more easily.<br />

On another day, invite the children to try to eat their cereal from a small bowl<br />

with a fork! Oops! What happens to the milk?<br />

Happy Feet<br />

Play a game to match children to their shoes.<br />

Have the children put one shoe in the middle of the rug as they sit around the<br />

edge.<br />

Hold up one shoe at a time.<br />

Let each child stand up, come to get their shoe and put it back on.<br />

Talk about whose shoes lace, buckle,Velcro, and slip on.<br />

A Big Smile<br />

Invite a local dentist or dental hygienist to visit the center.<br />

Ask the dentist to show children the proper brushing technique using a big plastic<br />

teeth model.<br />

Encourage the children to use their toothbrushes at home like the dentist<br />

showed them.<br />

At Circle Time, sing “This is the way we brush our teeth…” to the tune of “Here<br />

We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush.”<br />

As you and the children sing, imitate the motions used by the dentist.<br />

Display a poster of a child with a bright smile and shining teeth for the children<br />

to see when they use the sink.
