Alienware <strong>ALX</strong> Desktop Manual<br />
• Shut down and restart your computer.<br />
• Clean the Disc.<br />
• Reinstall the DVD or Blu-Ray playback s<strong>of</strong>tware provided with your system.<br />
• Try another disc. Some discs may have conflict with the drive if the<br />
encoding on the DVD or Blu-Ray disc does not match the encoding recognized<br />
by the drive.<br />
The computer will not POST:<br />
• Make sure that the power cord is properly connected to the back <strong>of</strong> the<br />
computer and a wall outlet or AC power source. Make sure that the wall outlet<br />
is working.<br />
• Unplug the modem cable (if applicable) and and other cables, and open your<br />
computer.<br />
• Check that the power supply cable in your computer is connected to the<br />
motherboard.<br />
• Check that the power button cable is connected correctly to the computer<br />
board.<br />
The BIOS settings are not saved:<br />
• Replace the motherboard’s CMOS battery.<br />
Hard Drive<br />
Error: “General failure reading drive C:\”<br />
• Check the diskette drive to see if there is a disk in the drive. Eject it and<br />
restart the computer.<br />
• Try restarting the computer by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE.<br />
• Unplug the power cord, modem cable (if applicable) and open your computer.<br />
• Check that the cables are properly connected to the hard drive and the<br />
motherboard or controller.<br />
• If the computer has been subjected to physical shock or static electricity, the<br />
operating computer may need to be reinstalled.
