an animated motion picture film are prepared. 4) One of
the materials used in the manufacture of mass produced
cylinder recordings, usually backed with some material,
cellulose {E;F} * A complex polymeric carbohydrate,
having the same composition as starch, i.e., 44.4%
carbon, 16.2% hydrogen, and 39.4% oxygen; the chief
component of the cell walls of plants, wood, etc.07. {D=
Zellulose; Es= celulosa; F= celluleux}.
cellulose acetate {E} * 1) Any of several clear, hard, and
glossy esters produced by the action of acetic acid and
sulphuric acid on cellulose; a hygroscopic material; the
most fungal resistant of the cellulosics. Used in 2) heat
sealing lamination, 3) as a safety film and magnetic tape
base, and 4) as a coating on direct-cut lacquer discs.
Although generally acknowledged as being the best base
for magnetic recording medium for many years, it is an
unstable medium with a limited storage life and has been
replaced by polyester; see also cellulose diacetate;
cellulose nitrate; cellulose triacetate; ester; safety film.(44.)
{D= Zelluloseazetat; Zelluloseazetatfolie; Es= 1) acetato
cellulose alpha {F} * see alpha-cellulose {E}.
cellulose diacetate {E} * 1) One of the clear, hard, glossy,
and slow-burning esters produced by the action of acetic
acid and sulphuric acid on cellulose. 2) Used as a safety
film base; is less flammable than cellulose nitrate, but not
as stable as cellulose triacetate or polyester. {D= ?; Es=
diacetato de celulosa; F= feuille diacetate de cellulose;
diacetate de cellulose}.
cellulose nitrate {E} * 1) Any of several flammable solid
esters obtained as the nitration of cellulose with a mixture
of nitric and sulphuric acids. 2) The first of the modern
plastics which replaced cellulose acetate as a disc ore
cylinder recording medium. 3) Once used widely (up until
42
1951) as a base for still and motion picture film; because
it is particularly unstable and highly flammable it has been
replaced by safety base films, such as cellulose diacetate,
cellulose triacetate, and polyester. The terms cellulose
nitrate film or nitrate film are preferable to nitrate cellulose;
however, for practical purposes, the terms are
synonymous.(01.04.40.34.) {D= Zellulosenitrat; Nitratfilm;
Es= 1) nitrato de celulosa; 2) sustituto del acetato de
celulosa para grabaciones cilíndricas; 3) película de
de cellulose}.
cellulose triacetate {E} * 1) One of the clear, hard, glossy,
and slow-burning esters produced by the action of acetic
acid and sulphuric acid on cellulose. 2) Used as a safety
film base for motion picture film which is less flammable
than cellulose nitrate and more dimensionally stable than
cellulose diacetate; frequently used, also, in sheet form, for
overlay cels.(09.) 3) Used as a magnetic tape base until
the late 1950s, early 1960s, when it was replaced by
polyester.(01.) {D= ?; Es= 1) triacetato de celulosa; 2 y 3)
its playing at the centre, rather than at the outside edge. 2)
A disc recording which requires the pickup and stylus to
move from the centre of the disc outward (having the
