Curriculum Vitae – Lucia Sacchi
Lucia Sacchi is assistant professor at the Department of Computer Engineering and System Science at
the University of Pavia. She’s got a Master Degree in Computer Engineering and a PhD in
Bioengineering and Bioinformatics both taken at the University of Pavia.
From February 2007 to September 2010 she had worked as research fellow at the Department of
Computer Engineering and Systems Science of the University of Pavia on a FIRB project funded by
the Italian Ministry of University and Research. From October 2010 to December 2011 she has
worked as a senior research fellow at the School of Information Systems, Computing and
Mathematics at Brunel University (London) on an EPSRC project on data integrity and intelligent data
analysis applied to a glaucoma progression dataset, in collaboration with the Moorfields Eye Hospital
in London.
Research Interests
Her research interests are mainly focused on Temporal Data Mining. She has been working on
qualitative modeling of time series through Temporal Abstractions and on the extraction of frequent
complex temporal patterns from biomedical datasets. Moreover, she has been working on the
impact of quality indicators in predicting glaucoma progression. The algorithms she has developed
have been applied both to clinical data mining and bioinformatics. Recently, she has started working
on clinical decision support systems and guidelines formalization within the EU funded project
"MobiGuide - Guiding Patients Anytime Everywhere" (FP7-287811).
Teaching Activity
Since 2012 she is in charge of the Artificial Intelligence Module for the Bioengineering Master's
degree at the University of Pavia. From 2004 to 2010 she has been teaching assistant for the
modules of Medical Informatics, Machine Learning and Probabilistic Modelling in Medicine for the
Biomedical Engineering Master's and Bachelor Degree at the University of Pavia.
Reviewer Activity and Scientific Events Organization
In 2009 and in 2012 she has been co-chairing the Workshop on Intelligent Data analysis in
bioMedicine and Pharmacology (IDAMAP). Since 2009 she is a member of the Program Committee of
the Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AIME). She serves as a reviewer for several ISI
(Journals Methods of Information in Medicine, Journal of Biomedical Informatics, IEEE Transactions
on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Information Sciences and IEEE Transactions on
Information Technology in Biomedicine) and several international conferences (AIME, MEDINFO,
AMIA, MIE).
Selected publications
She has co-authored about 50 papers on international journals and international conferences.
