The capital costs of <strong>the</strong> fuel treatment<br />

facilities are not included here but are taken into account in <strong>the</strong> fuel<br />

cycle cost (see Sect. 5.3.4). However, space and equipment for handling<br />

<strong>the</strong> coolant salt are included in <strong>the</strong> reactor plant estimates.<br />

The DXSR is estimated to cost $653 million, or about .$65O/kWe in 1978<br />

dollars. This compares with about $600/kWe for a PWR plant and $38O/kWe<br />

for a coal plant without flue-gas cleaning.
