The Neuroendocrinology group (AG Heuer) at the at the Leibniz Institute for Age Research/Fritz
Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena is inviting applications for a
Postdoc position (TV-L E13)
A main focus of our lab is to study the pathophysiological signifcance of thyroid hormone transporters
by analysing the respective mouse mutants. We are particularly interested to determine
which thyroid hormone transporters are essential for proper brain development and function.
Our previous studies have revealed that the thyroid hormone transporter MCT8 plays a critical
role in the uptake of the thyroid hormone T3 into the brain. However, compared to patients with
inactivating MCT8 mutations who suffer from a severe form of psychomotor retardation, MCT8
knockout mice exhibit a rather mild phenotype indicating that additional thyroid hormone transporters
must be present.
Studies in our lab are ongoing to define the role of other thyroid hormone transporters in mediating
neuronal and glial thyroid hormone uptake. For this purpose, we are generating conditional
knockout mutants that are going to be extensively phenotypically characterized as recently described
(Trajkovic et al., J Clin Invest, 2007).
For these studies we are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with a strong interest
in endocrinology as well as in neurobiological questions and a willingness to work with mice.
Candidates are encouraged to send their application (in English or German) including CV, a
short description of research experiences and interests, and the contact details of two referees,
preferably per email to
The Laboratory of Molecular Genetics at the Leibniz Institute for Age Reasearch,
Fritz-Lipmann-Institute, Jena, Germany is inviting applications for a
Postdoctoral position (TV-L E13)
For many years our lab is working on the role of the transcription factor Wt1 (encoded by
the Wilms tumor suppressor gene) in organogenesis, with particular emphasis on urogenital
development (see Genes Dev 16, 1839-1851, 2002; Mol Cell Biol 27, 4355-4364,
2007). We have recently generated a conditional Wt1 knockout mouse. In the future we
want to characterize the phenotypic and molecular consequences of conditional and inducible
Wt1 inactivation in a number of different tissues including kidney, gonads, female
reproductive tract and brain.
The applicant should be highly self-motivated with a genuine interest in developmental
biology and have good team-working capabilities. Know-how in molecular biology is essential.
Experience in mouse work, tissue processing and other methods in developmental
biology would be an advantage.
Please send your application, including C.V., a short description of research experience
and interests, and contact details of two refererences and/or letters of recommendation
preferably electronically, as a single pdf file citing the code nr. 11/09 to jobs@flileibniz.de
