Agency for exploitation <strong>of</strong> Geothermal Energy<br />
in the country by <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Non<br />
Conventional Energy Sources(MNES). The<br />
ranking studies <strong>of</strong> geothermal fields in India<br />
have been carried out through an<br />
International Consultant viz., M/s<br />
GeothermEx, USA. Two proposals for the<br />
installation <strong>of</strong> 300 kW and 1 MW pilot<br />
geothermal plants at Tattapani were<br />
submitted to MNES. These have not been<br />
found commercially viable by MNES. The<br />
proposal for overall development <strong>of</strong> Tattapani<br />
Geothermal Fields was prepared by NHPC<br />
which has been examined by MNES and<br />
now NGRI has been asked to submit<br />
proposal to MNES for conducting detailed<br />
survey. NHPC is to be associated for further<br />
action, based on survey results. In addition<br />
A view <strong>of</strong> Chamera Dam<br />
to above, a pre-feasibility report for<br />
installation <strong>of</strong> national demonstration<br />
geothermal power plant <strong>of</strong> 5 MW capacity<br />
at Puga, J&K was also submitted to MNES.<br />
MNES has conveyed that the Commission<br />
for Additional Sources <strong>of</strong> Energy (CASE) has<br />
not approved this proposal.<br />
H COMMERCIAL<br />
The principal outstanding dues excluding<br />
Development surcharge as on 31.3.2003<br />
were Rs. 1094.08 crores which have been<br />
reduced to Rs. 342.97 crores as on<br />
31.03.2004. The major component <strong>of</strong><br />
Outstandings is due from DTL, which is yet<br />
to be securitized.<br />
During financial year 2003-04 the percentage<br />
realization works out to 97.06% (provisional).
