ASH UTILISATION<br />

During the year 2003-2004, about 75 lakh tons<br />

<strong>of</strong> ash has been utilized for various<br />

productive purposes, which is approximately<br />

23.5% <strong>of</strong> the total ash generation against<br />

MOU excellent target <strong>of</strong> 16.5%. The major ash<br />

utilization was in the areas <strong>of</strong> issue to Cement<br />

and Asbestos Industry, Ash Dyke Raising and<br />

Land Development & Road Embankment.<br />

REHABILITATION & RESETTLEMENT<br />

NTPC is committed to help the populace<br />

displaced for execution <strong>of</strong> its projects and has<br />

been making efforts to improve the Socioeconomic<br />

status <strong>of</strong> Project Affected Persons<br />

(PAPs). In line with its social objective, the<br />

company has focused on effective resettlement<br />

and rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> its PAPs and also<br />

community development works in and<br />

around the projects.<br />

During the year Rehabilitation Action Plans for<br />

Koldam Project was approved in June 2003 for<br />

Rs.28.96 crore and community development<br />

plan was approved for Rs. 8.69 crore in<br />

Janaury 2004. Additional community<br />

development plan for newly acquired area for MGR<br />

corridor etc. <strong>of</strong> Simhadri Project was approved<br />

on April 2003 for Rs.100.0 lakhs.<br />

Implementation <strong>of</strong> RAP <strong>of</strong> Unchahar-II project<br />

was completed in March 2004. Implementation<br />

<strong>of</strong> approved RAPs for Anta-II, Auraiya-II, Sipat<br />

and Simhadri is in progress.<br />

ISO CERTIFICATION<br />

NTPC’s pursuit for excellence with good system<br />

orientation has been Engineering Division,<br />

Operation Services Divison, Contracts & Materials<br />

Divison, Consultancy Wing, Corpoate Commercial,<br />

Corporate HR and the <strong>Power</strong> Management<br />

Institute (PMI) achieving ISO-9001 certification.<br />

Eighteen (18) out <strong>of</strong> Twenty (20) Stations <strong>of</strong> NTPC<br />

have been accredited with ISO-9002 certification<br />

and Nineteen (19) out <strong>of</strong> Twenty (20) Stations <strong>of</strong><br />

NTPC (including Badarpur) have implemented<br />

ISO-14001 certified Environment Management<br />

Systems (EMS) the same is under<br />

implementation at Simhadri. The Corporate<br />

Environment and Ash Utilisation division has also<br />

achieved ISO-4001 Certification.<br />

ENERGY CONSERVATION<br />

NTPC carries out 150 to 200 energy audits in<br />

its power stations every year whereby efficiency<br />

<strong>of</strong> equipment and plants is enhanced through<br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> recommendations emerging out<br />

<strong>of</strong> energy audit reports. During the year 2003-04,<br />

194 energy audits were carried out at<br />

different NTPC stations in addition to daily<br />

energy surveys and day to day monitoring <strong>of</strong><br />

auxiliary power consumption. In addition, NTPC<br />

has also installed non-conventional energy<br />

gadgets like solar water heaters, solar water<br />

pumps, solar PV lights, bio-gas and bio-mass<br />

plants and adopted energy saving technologies<br />

like vapour absorption machines for air<br />

conditioning, variable frequency drives, s<strong>of</strong>t<br />

starters, energy efficient lighting lamps and<br />

gadgets etc. On account <strong>of</strong> such specific efforts<br />

towards energy conservation, an energy<br />

savings amounting to the tune <strong>of</strong> Rs. 26.72<br />

crores have been achieved during the year<br />

2003-04.<br />
