MOU PERFORMANCE<br />
NTPC is the first power sector corporation to have signed a Memorandum <strong>of</strong> Understanding<br />
(MOU) with the Govt. <strong>of</strong> India and has a consistent record <strong>of</strong> surpassing the set targets in MOU year<br />
after year. NTPC achieved the Excellent targets set under the Memorandum <strong>of</strong> Understanding (MOU)<br />
signed with GOI and achieved Excellent Rating for all the 17 years upto 2003-04 since inception <strong>of</strong> the<br />
MOU system.<br />
Based on the Memorandum <strong>of</strong> Understanding (MOU), signed between NTPC and the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> power<br />
for the year 2003-04, the performance <strong>of</strong> NTPC against MOU targets in respect <strong>of</strong> major performance<br />
parameters are as follow :<br />

CORPORATE PLAN<br />
In tune with the transformation roadmap, the<br />
corporate plan <strong>of</strong> NTPC for the period 1997-2012<br />
has been updated to 2002-2017 and the updated<br />
Corporate Plan has been approved by company’s<br />
Board <strong>of</strong> Directors. The updated plan envisages<br />
a total installed capacity <strong>of</strong> 56,000 MW<br />
comprising 42,000 MW coal and gas based<br />
capacity, 11,000 MW hydel capacity, 2000 MW<br />
nuclear capacity and 1000 MW from nonconventional<br />
sources. The ownership pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong><br />
the total planned capacity addition comprises<br />
48,000 MW on Company’s own Balance Sheet,<br />
6,000 MW through Joint Ventures, 1,000 MW<br />
through Domestic Subsidiaries and another 1,000<br />
MW through Overseas Ventures. The plan also<br />
envisages NTPC’s presence in coal mining,<br />
washeries, LNG, power distribution and trading<br />
businesses. Further, major thrust has been<br />
laid on Research & Development and integrated<br />
Enterprise Resource Planning. In essence, by<br />
2017 NTPC aims to have presence in many<br />
countries through different business vehicles<br />
and a combined group annual turnover <strong>of</strong><br />
Rs.1400 billion.<br />
NTPC has adopted a multi-pronged growth<br />
strategy to reach the desired goals by the year<br />
2017. The strategy, inter-alia, includes capacity<br />
addition through greenfield projects, expansion<br />
<strong>of</strong> existing stations, joint ventures. Further, new<br />
business opportunities are being continuously<br />
explored through environment scanning and new<br />
business plans are adopted through mid-course<br />
corrections.<br />
Capacity Addition Programe<br />
With a view to achieve a capacity <strong>of</strong> 40,000 MW<br />
by the year 2012, NTPC has formulated an<br />
ambitious capacity addition programme as follows:<br />
