<strong>of</strong> Official Language.<br />
During the year, a ‘Rajbhasha Month’ was<br />
observed from 1st – 30th September, 2003 and on<br />
14th September, 2003 ‘Hindi Day’ was celebrated.<br />
During ‘Rajbhasha Month’, the Corporation also<br />
organised a ‘Hindi Kavi Sammelan-Mushayara’<br />
on the theme <strong>of</strong> ‘Kaomi Ekta’ in which famous<br />
and renowned Poets and Shayers were invited.<br />
On 31st May, 2003 the Drafting and Evidence<br />
Sub-Committee <strong>of</strong> Parliament on Official Language<br />
in the aegis <strong>of</strong> NARAKAS (Undertakings)<br />
discussed the progress made in Hindi<br />
Implementation. Members <strong>of</strong> the Committee<br />
appreciated the progress made by the Corporation<br />
in Implementation <strong>of</strong> Official Language Policy.<br />
In addition to above, Corporation was also<br />
awarded ‘Rajbhasha Shiromani’ Award for<br />
outstanding work done in the field <strong>of</strong> Official<br />
Language and was also awarded second prize<br />
for Excellent Publication <strong>of</strong> the Quarterly In-house<br />
Journal (URJA DIPTI) by the Akhil Bhartiya<br />
Rastrabhasha Vikas Sansthan & UMS Patrika,<br />
Ghaziabad.<br />
REC<br />
Efforts were made to comply with the directives<br />
and achieve the targets given in the Annual<br />
Programme issued by the Department <strong>of</strong> Official<br />
Language, <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Home Affairs. During the<br />
Hindi Pakhwara, various Hindi competitions were<br />
organized & winners were given away 50 percent<br />
cash awards as well as 50 percent Hindi<br />
literature. Hindi workshops were organized to<br />
remove hesitation in use <strong>of</strong> Hindi for <strong>of</strong>ficial work.<br />
Cash awards & certificates were given to <strong>of</strong>ficers/<br />
employees for doing their original work in Hindi<br />
during the year. Inspection programme &<br />
meetings <strong>of</strong> the Official Language Implementation<br />
Committee were organized according to rules.<br />
Nine Divisions Corporate Office are specified<br />
under 8(4), where complete work is done in Hindi.<br />
All 31 English stenographers have been given<br />
training in Hindi shorthand. 19 English typists<br />
have been given training in Hindi typing & they<br />
are required to work in Hindi typing also. All 102<br />
computers in Corporate Office have been<br />
equipped with Hindi s<strong>of</strong>tware. Corporation’s<br />
website has been updated and made bilingually.<br />
REC was awarded “NTPC Rajbhasha Shield” in<br />
2002-03 for its better work performance.<br />
THDC<br />
Directives <strong>of</strong> the Official Language Department,<br />
<strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Home Affairs are implemented in<br />
THDC effectively. Corporation has made all<br />
possible efforts to propagate the use in the <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />
work in all its <strong>of</strong>fices, and won awards, praise<br />
and recognition in the implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />
language. Various progammes for promotion in<br />
the use <strong>of</strong> Hindi were organized and award/<br />
incentive were given to employees for their<br />
contribution for the purpose during the year.<br />
DVC<br />
Promotion and implementation <strong>of</strong> the Official<br />
Language policy <strong>of</strong> the Government <strong>of</strong> India is<br />
the object for which DVC is functioning with all<br />
its efforts. During the year under review, the<br />
Corporation implemented the programmes as per<br />
directives <strong>of</strong> the Official Language Department<br />
issued by the Govt. <strong>of</strong> India from time to time.<br />
Classes for imparting working knowledge in Hindi<br />
among the employees <strong>of</strong> DVC are run at<br />
Headquarters as well as in the field formations.<br />
Some <strong>of</strong> the employees have acquired knowledge<br />
<strong>of</strong> Hindi through correspondence course. An<br />
arrangement for Hindi typing training has also<br />
been made in DVC Headquarters.<br />
A special drive has been initiated by DVC for<br />
filling up the vacant posts in Hindi Cell. As a<br />
result <strong>of</strong> regular training and with the<br />
recruitment <strong>of</strong> some Hindi staff, there has been<br />
a remarkable increase in the implementation<br />
<strong>of</strong> section 3(3) <strong>of</strong> O.L. Act and rule 5 <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Official Language Rules in DVC.<br />
During the year under review, separate Official<br />
Language workshops were organized for<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficers and employees to develop their working<br />
knowledge required for implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />
language policy in DVC Headquarters and its<br />
field formations.<br />
During the year under review, Hindi Diwas/<br />
Pakhwara were celebrated. Several<br />
competitions related to <strong>of</strong>ficial language,<br />
were organised to inspire employees for<br />
executing their <strong>of</strong>ficial work in Hindi. One<br />
departmental Rajbhasha Shield was awarded<br />
to the best department on the basis <strong>of</strong> using<br />
maximum Hindi in <strong>of</strong>ficial activities.<br />
During the year under review, Damodar Valley<br />
Corporation received the first prize from<br />
CALTOLIC (Undertaking), Kolkata for its<br />
excellent performance in implementation<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial language activities.<br />
