“<strong>Power</strong>links Transmission Limited”) for<br />
implementation <strong>of</strong> major transmission lines <strong>of</strong><br />
the Transmission system associated with Tala<br />
HEP in Bhutan, East-North inter-connector and<br />
Northern Region Transmission System, costing<br />
about Rs. 1,100 Crore. This project has received<br />
excellent response from International Funding<br />
Institutes like IFC, Washington including<br />
multilateral financing from private sector arm <strong>of</strong><br />
ADB, Manila and Indian Financial Institutions like<br />
IDFC, SBI. The project loan is without any<br />
guarantee from POWERGRID and GOI. The JV<br />
Company has received its transmission license<br />
from CERC, the first such license in Indian <strong>Power</strong><br />
Sector. In fact this JV model <strong>of</strong> Public - Private<br />
Partnership, developed by POWERGRID, is first<br />
in India and in Asia and would be trend setter<br />
for future private investment not only in India but<br />
abroad as well.<br />
With the success <strong>of</strong> above project, POWERGRID<br />
has already initiated action to bring in more<br />
private investment in transmission projects and<br />
two more projects i.e. transmission system<br />
associated with Koldam, Parbati & Maithon,<br />
estimated to Cost Rs. 1300 Crore, have been<br />
floated under joint venture route.<br />
In addition, transmission lines under Western<br />
Region Strengthening scheme (estimated project<br />
cost: Rs. 3,500 Crore) is also being considered<br />
for implementation under JV route.
