Economic Development and Workforce Education<br />

The Mission of the Office of Economic Development and Workforce Education (OEDWE) is to link education,<br />

work, and training to improve the competitiveness within the workforce.<br />

The OEDWE at <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> (LACC) is a multifaceted entity that works collaboratively with internal<br />

and external partners for the purpose of serving and training diverse student and organizational populations.<br />

LACC is committed to providing resources, training, and tools that positively impact and build neighboring<br />

communities with an emphasis on creating a competitively skilled and competent workforce. Bridging the gap<br />

between training and preparing a successful workforce and satisfying workplace demands requires that LACC<br />

programs remain current with business and industry.<br />

CAREER ADVANCEMENT ACADEMY<br />

VOCATIONAL HEALTH BRIDGE<br />

Bridges the learning gap by assisting a diversified population of students that share a common interest in<br />

pursuing professional careers in healthcare. Students are given academic support through the integration of<br />

contextualized Health Care curriculum in English and Math in an effort to improve scholastic success at a future<br />

vocational training institution. This program is grant-funded at no cost to students.<br />

CAREER PATHWAYS ACADEMY<br />

Establishes career pathways through promotion of credit courses, and degree applicable CTE Skill Certificates<br />

to high school students for completion in tandem with their high school diploma, and with subsequent<br />

transition to Certificate and Associate Degree program enrollment after high school graduation. Tech Prep is a<br />

State-funded grant and is a significant innovation in the education reform movement in the United States.<br />

Tech Prep is an important school-to-work transition strategy, as it emphasizes conlextual learning and career<br />

pathways, and helps students make the connection between school and employment.<br />

WORKFORCE READINESS ACADEMY<br />

Prepares English language learners, economically disadvantaged, and other non-traditional college students<br />

to attain the essential knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully acquire and retain employment, and to<br />

effectively explore, plan and establish career ladder pathways leading to growth opportunities in high demand<br />

occupations. The focus of the Academy is participation in Workforce Education Programs as the first step in the<br />

career ladder of success towards attaining economic self-sufficiency with subsequent career ladder progressions<br />

to credit Vocational Education Skills Certificates and/or Associate Degree Programs. Academy Education and<br />

training programs encompass 11 Noncredit Skills Certificates of Competency and Completion. Additional<br />

courses are available in Basic Education and Computing skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), Vocational<br />

ESL, Workforce Literacy, Job Readiness skills, and associated Short-Term Vocational Training for high<br />

demand jobs in high growth industries. Other high demand Academy Programs include Citizenship Services<br />

and Entrepreneurship Skills Training.<br />
