The Office of Special Services is eager to<br />

assist faculty in accommodating the needs<br />

of students with disabilities. Students with<br />

disabilities are encouraged to discuss their<br />

eligibility for academic adjustments with their<br />

instructors early in the semester.<br />

ADA ACCOMMODATION<br />

If you suspect you have a disability, consult<br />

with an OSS Specialist or a counselor to<br />

determine if a comprehensive LD assessment<br />

is needed. Ongoing support services such as<br />

specialized tutoring, academic counseling,<br />

and accommodations may be authorized. For<br />

an appointment contact the Office of Special<br />

Services at (323) 953-2270.<br />

HIGH TECHNOLOGY CENTER<br />

The High Technology Center offers Adapted<br />

computer, evaluation, training and support<br />

for students with disabilities. The Center is<br />

equipped with devices that aid a student’s<br />

ability to read, write and access computers.<br />

Specialized courses designed for most<br />

disabilities are taught at the Center, located<br />

in SSV 100. For more information, call at<br />

ADA ACCOMMODATION pARkING<br />

Disability parking spaces are available in all<br />

<strong>College</strong> designated parking lots. Any vehicle<br />

parking in a <strong>College</strong> Disability Parking space<br />

must display a State of California Issued<br />

Parking Placard and LACC parking permit.<br />

Student parking permits can be purchased in<br />

the Business Office.<br />

Learning Skills Center<br />

The Center offers individualized open-entry/<br />

open-exit courses on a credit/no-credit basis in:<br />

Reading, Vocabulary, Math, Algebra, English<br />

Fundamentals, ESL Conversation, Spelling,<br />

Notetaking, Term Paper Writing, Academic<br />

Study Skills, Writing Fundamentals Preparation,<br />

Job Research Skills, the Metric System, Math<br />

Anxiety, and Library Media Technology. Students<br />

must take a diagnostic assessment in the Center<br />

prior to enrolling in any of the one-unit courses<br />

offered. Students may enroll in classes through<br />

the fourteenth week of the semester. Add<br />

cards and other materials for enrollment and<br />

registration are available in the Learning Skills<br />

Center, and course materials and supplies are<br />

available for purchase in the Student Bookstore.<br />

The Center offers tutoring in most course areas<br />

taught on campus. See the Learning Skills<br />

section of the class listings for courses offered<br />

this semester.<br />

Library<br />

The library features:<br />

• A professionally-staffed Reference Center<br />

• A Circulation Desk with textbooks, reserve books,<br />

and Instructional Television video tapes<br />

• Bookstacks with 150,000 circulating books<br />

• A Periodicals Center with 100+ years of magazines<br />

and newspapers<br />

• Online book catalog, online periodical databases,<br />

and Internet access for library research<br />

• 60 computers for students, including 2 with ADA<br />

capabilities<br />

• Photocopy machines and Microsoft Word<br />

• Study carrels, group study rooms, and two large<br />

reading areas<br />

A library guide, self-guided tours, and instructorrequested<br />

orientations are available through the<br />

Reference Center. A one-unit course (LS 101<br />

Library Research Methods) is offered. Individual<br />

questions are welcomed at the Reference and<br />

Periodicals Desks. Students must use their valid<br />

college identification card to qualify for library<br />

privileges. When the Library is closed, materials<br />

may be returned through the outside chute<br />

located at the south end of the building.<br />
