The ASO provides funding for campus events and<br />

activities, such as the Honor Tea, Graduation,<br />

Welcome Days, Health Fair, Transfer Fair, Foreign<br />

Language Day, and several multi-cultural activities,<br />

and supports clubs, forensics, music, honors, and<br />

other academic programs. The weekly meetings of<br />

the ASO Student Senate are posted and open to all<br />

LACC students who pay the membership fee ($7.00<br />

per semester) may receive: use of computers with<br />

internet access, copier and fax services, preferred parking<br />

with permit purchase, free blue books and scantrons,<br />

book grants (limited number provided), and eligibility for<br />

one of two ASO scholarships.<br />

• Textbooks must be returned within the first (10)<br />

school days for the <strong>Fall</strong> and Spring semesters and<br />

within the first five (5) days for Summer<br />

& Winter session. Short term classes have only<br />

the first day (1) of the class for returns. If texts<br />

are purchased after the return period stipulated<br />

above, they must be returned within 24 hours<br />

& may only be exchanged for the correct book.<br />

• Textbooks must be returned in the same condition<br />

as when purchased in order to receive a full refund<br />

(e.g. in shrinkwrap (all pieces), no bent pages, no<br />

broken spine, no open/visible codes, no writing<br />

or erasing etc). Please refer to “Refund Policy” in<br />

catalog for info about restocking fees.<br />

• Supplies must be exchanged for correct item within<br />

24 hours of purchase and in original packaging.<br />

CHECk pOLICY: No temporary, third party or<br />

out of state, money orders or traveler checks are<br />

accepted. Checks must be imprinted with correct<br />

name and address and written for the amount of<br />

purchase only. No postdated checks are accepted.<br />

Customer must have valid California Drivers License<br />

or ID and original/current registration printout (from<br />

business office) Check writing privileges may be<br />

permanently denied after one returned check.<br />

CREDIT CARD pOLICY: Credit cards are only<br />

accepted with valid California Drivers License ID<br />

that match the name on the card and the card<br />

holder must be present. The bookstore accepts<br />

MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express.<br />

REFUNDS: Do not hold merchandise. Funds<br />

returned in same form of payment received. Items<br />

must be returned by return deadlines as stated<br />

in the refund policy handed out at the register<br />

and found in the catalog. See catalog for more<br />

information.<br />

BOOK SELL BACK: Book Sell back is held the<br />

first week of Spring and <strong>Fall</strong> and during Finals of<br />

each term. Buyback is not guaranteed.<br />

Calworks/TANF program<br />

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)<br />

is the Federal Block grant program that has<br />

replaced AFDC. California Work Opportunity<br />

and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) provides<br />

education, job development, child-care,<br />

transportation and other supportive services to<br />

eligible welfare recipients. The <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong><br />

Community <strong>College</strong> District is one of the major<br />

providers of a complete comprehensive program<br />

to welfare clients in cooperation with county<br />

welfare departments. At <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>City</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong>, there are a variety of CalWORKs/TANF<br />

student programs that include specialized ESL,<br />

ABE (Adult Basic Education), GED preparation,<br />

vocational training, WEX (work experience), and<br />

Parent Education workshops. We also provide<br />

counseling, tutoring, education and training<br />

verifications, resource and referral services. Paid<br />

Internships on/off campus are available to assist<br />

students in gaining valuable work experience in<br />

addition to supplementing their income. Short<br />

Term Certificate programs have been designed<br />

especially for our CalWORKs/TANF students to<br />

ensure successful transition from Welfare-to-<br />

CHJILD DEVOpMENT CENTER<br />

The Campus Child Development Center offers a<br />

preschool program for children 3-5 years of age and an<br />

evening program for school-age children. The center<br />

provides a developmentally appropriate curriculum<br />

that responds to the individual needs of children,<br />

incorporating the learning domains of social, physical,<br />

cultural, cognitive and emotional growth. Enrollment<br />

is available for the children of LACC student-parents<br />

to assist them in completing their educational goals.<br />

Priority is given to low-income families and full-time<br />

students. A sliding fee may be charged based upon<br />

family size and income. Many families qualify for<br />

subsidized child-care. Please see our adjacent ad<br />

for office hours and pre-school and school-aged<br />

children’s program hours.<br />

The Career Center provides students with career<br />

assessment (testing), career counseling, and<br />

information on career choices. The Center offers<br />

vocational testing to identify interests, abilities,<br />

personality type, and work values related to career<br />

options. In addition, there is a career resource<br />

library and Internet accessible computers with<br />

software programs (i.e. EUREKA) to assist in the<br />

career exploration process. The Career Center<br />

offers workshops, resume assistance and has<br />

information on internships. Services are provided<br />

by appointment and on a walk-in basis when<br />

available.<br />

Counseling is available to all students. Quick<br />

questions can be answered at the walk-in<br />

counter during office hours. Students who take<br />

part in counseling services will be able to select<br />

and plan their academic majors, explore furture<br />

college choices and develop specific plans<br />

to meet their transfer and graduation goals.<br />
