THEATRE ACADEMY CLASSES<br />

The <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Theatre Academy at <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> has firmly established<br />

itself as one of the most accomplished and highly respected professional theatre<br />

training institutions in the United States.<br />

Since being established in 1929, the Academy has been dedicated to developing the<br />

skills, crafts and attitudes of students to prepare them for careers in the professional<br />

theatre.<br />

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING FOR THE ACTOR<br />

The training that the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Theatre Academy students receive is stimulating,<br />

broadening, exacting and intense. A limited number of openings are available<br />

each fall and spring semester to those acting students who are highly motivated,<br />

aggressive, exceptionally talented, and responsible. An acting student admitted into<br />

the Academy is signifying complete dedication to study, work and performance so<br />

that the standard of excellence of the Theatre Academy is continually maintained.<br />

Acceptance into the competitive, highly selective acting program is by audition and<br />

interview only. Specific information concerning entrance requirements is available<br />

in the Theatre Production Office (Theatre Building - Room 208). Please note that<br />

any actor interested in pursuing training at the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Theatre Academy must<br />

exhibit competence in spoken English. Those actors with pronounced dialects and<br />

regional accents who are accepted into the Academy will be required to spend extra<br />

time over the course of their training in the Speech Lab so that lack of understanding<br />

or articulation does not become a hindrance. Training at the Academy requires<br />

enrollment in the Fall <strong>Semester</strong>, Winter Intersession, and <strong>Spring</strong> <strong>Semester</strong>.<br />
