DESCRIPTION: Study and practice of the best methods of voice development, speech<br />

sound production, pronunciation, articulation, and prosody.<br />

SPEECH 113 - ENGLISH SPEECH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE<br />

(CSU) - 3.00 UNITS Rpt 1<br />

ADVISORY: Speech 73 and Speech 60C and ESL 6A with a satisfactory grade or<br />

appropriate placement score.<br />

DESCRIPTION: For speakers of English as a second language. May be taken twice for<br />

credit. May NOT be taken concurrently with any other Speech class.<br />

COREQUISITE: Students in Speech 113 must also enroll in Speech 60D. Choose a<br />

section from the Speech Clinic Availability table above that matches a time you can<br />

attend the Speech Clinic for 30 minutes per week. You must complete registration for<br />

this Lab Course within the first two weeks of the semester, otherwise, you will not be<br />

allowed to continue in the Co-requisite course.<br />

DESCRIPTION: Stresses the speaking of standard American English, including<br />

pronunciation, diacritics and/or phonetics, dictionary use, idiomatic expressions,<br />

phraseology, rhythm, inflection, and vocabulary building.<br />

DESCRIPTION: Meets CSU transfer certification requirements. Speech communication<br />

interaction involving 2 to 5 people. Classroom exercises and experimentation<br />
