PREREQUISITE: Photography 10 with satisfactory grade or better, or approval of B&W<br />
portfolio by instructor prior to enrollment. First meeting of the semester is a lecture<br />
class. ADVISORY: Photography 28 and English 28 or equivalent. DESCRIPTION:<br />
DO NOT attend Lab class. This is the first class in the degree program. An intense<br />
continuation of Photo 10 with emphasis on professional view camera, studio lighting<br />
and darkroom techniques. (Concurrent enrollment in Photography 28 is strongly<br />

ADVISORY: English 28/31 or equivalent. DESCRIPTION: An introductory course in the<br />
uses and applications of professional digital SLR cameras. Camera controls, elements<br />
of composition, and photographing with natural light will be stressed. Professional<br />
digital cameras may be provided by the department for student use. Students may<br />
use their own cameras to supplement assignments. Owning a digital camera is not a<br />
requirement but is highly recommended.<br />

ADVISORY: English 28/31 or equivalent. DESCRIPTION: Basic principles of photography<br />
from the mechanical creation of the image with camera and film to enlarging the<br />
photograph for display, while applying the guidelines of composition, communication<br />
and self-expression. 35 mm single lens camera required. Automatic cameras are OK,<br />
but they must have manual shutter speed and lens opening capability. Approximate<br />
supplies cost is $125. You must attend the first lecture meeting, or be replaced by<br />
students wishing to add. The first scheduled class is the first lecture meeting. Do not<br />
attend the first lab meeting. Labs will met only after announced in lecture class.<br />

DESCRIPTION: Students enrolled in this class will learn about color photography from<br />
its beginning to the present with new materials on the present market. Light and its<br />
characteristics are studied in order to better understand perception and the individual’s<br />
interpretation of color. Estimated cost is $100.<br />

ADVISORY: Concurrent enrollment in Photography 28.<br />
DESCRIPTION: Lecture, 2 hours; lab, 6 hours. Students learn photography for<br />
publications, including magazines, wire services, print and online newspapers and<br />
campus publications. The primary emphasis is on digital photography and its use in the<br />
journalism and publication worlds. Students practice using cameras and computers,<br />
correctly applying the techniques of instruction to photojournalistic methods and visual<br />
news gathering.<br />

historical developments of in photography including major technological inventions<br />
and advancements, styles and movements, and important photographers from 1826<br />
though 1960. Special attention is paid to the impact of the photographic image and<br />
how it has shaped modern art and culture worldwide.<br />
