THE BASIC MATHEMATICS DECISION – MATH 105 OR BASIC SKILLS 007CE: Students
who must take basic Mathematics 105 may satisfy this requirement in either Math
105 (credit, 3 units) or Basic Skills 007CE (non credit 0 units). The advantages of
Basic Skills 007CE are that there is no tuition, it is open entry, open exit, and it is only
two hours per week. The main disadvantage is that as a consequence of being zero
units, it does not qualify when calculating units for financial aid. Although there is no
book requirement for Basic Skills 007CE, there is a fee for the software license the
Department uses. The choice is yours.
MATHEMATICS 007CE (Basic Skills 007) –
ARITHMETIC (NDA) NON-CREDIT
DESCRIPTION: Open to all students. Students learn in an on campus computer laboratory
using interactive computer based instruction. To assist students with their learning,
tutors and technicians are available in the laboratory during all instructional sessions.
Administrative management of the course is conducted online. Prior to the first lab
session, you should download and read course instructions from the Math 007 website at
http://www.lacitycollege.edu/academic/departments/mathdept/math-007.html
MATHEMATICS 010 - MATH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (MSL)
- 1.00 UNITS
Can you speak Math? What is the order of operations? How do you set up a problem
and then solve it? Where do you find the equal sign when the problem is presented in
English? What is Mathlish? What does it do? If you have difficulty figuring out how to
solve math problems, there is a new course just for you in the Spring 2011semester.
