CHEMISTRY 060 - INTRODUCTION TO GENERAL CHEMISTRY
(UC:CSU) - 5.00 UNITS
PREREQUIISTE: Math 115 or Placement Exam.
ADVISORY: English 28 and 67 or English 31.
DESCRIPTION: Lecture 3 hours, Laboratory 4 hours. This course prepares students for
Chemistry 101 and satisfies the chemistry requirement for the LACC Nursing Program.
It covers atomic structure, nomenclature, bonding, molecular geometry, chemical
reactions, stoichiometry, states of matter and related forces, gas laws, solution
chemistry, quantum theory, periodic properties, colligative properties, and acid base
concepts. This course satisfies the IGETC and CSU general education requirements for
physical science with laboratory.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS ENROLLING IN CHEM 101
• Students who have not completed the Chemistry 60 or 68, or the approved equivalent
course, must earn a satisfactory score on the Chemistry Readiness Exam which is
administered by the LACC Assessment Office. For more information about the exam
and when it is administered, please contact the Matriculation Office at (323)953-
4000, ext. 2264. You may also refer to the following website for information about
the exam: http://www.lacitycollege.edu/services/matriculation/assessment.html All
exam appointments must be scheduled in person in AD103.
• High school chemistry is not accepted as a prerequisite for Chem 101, regardless of
the grade earned.
• Challenges to prerequisites must be made through the Counseling Center in AD108.
Transcripts are required. For more information contact the Counseling Center at
(323)953-4000, ext. 2250.
• The Chemistry Readiness Exam applies only to the chemistry course prerequisite.
Passing the Chemistry Readiness Exam does not waive the Math 125 prerequisite.

Diagnostic Exam and Mathematics 125 with a satisfactory grade better. ADVISORY:
