The Office of Special Services is eager to<br />

assist faculty in accommodating the special<br />

needs of students with disabilities. Students<br />

with disabilities are encouraged to discuss<br />

their special needs with their instructors<br />

early in the semester.<br />

LEARNING DISABILITIES<br />

If you suspect you have a learning disability,<br />

consult with a <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Learning Disability Specialist to determine if<br />

a comprehensive LD assessment is needed.<br />

Should a learning disability be verified,<br />

special ongoing services such as special<br />

tutoring, academic counseling, and extended<br />

time for examinations are available. For an<br />

hIGh TEChNOLOGY CENTER<br />

The High Technology Center offerscomputer<br />

use, evaluation, training and support for<br />

students with disabilities.The Center is<br />

equipped with devices that aid a student’s<br />

ability to read, write and access computers.<br />

Specialized courses designed for most<br />

disabilities are taught at the Center, located<br />

in Clausen Hall 109. For more information,<br />

DISABLED PERSON’S PARKING<br />

Disabled parking spaces are available in all<br />

<strong>College</strong> designated parking lots. Any vehicle<br />

parking in a <strong>College</strong> Disabled Parking space<br />

must display a State of California Issued<br />

Disabled Parking Placard and LACC parking<br />

permit. Student parking permits can be<br />

purchased in the Business Office.<br />

You must complete 18 units (6 classes) of Honors<br />

coursework with an overall 3.3 GPA.<br />

UCI. To join, you need a 3.0 GPA or better and<br />

you must be eligible for English 101. Eighteen<br />

units of Honors coursework is required.<br />

Learning Skills Center<br />

The Center offers individualized open-entry/<br />

open-exit courses on a credit/no-credit basis<br />

in: Reading, Vocabulary, Math, Algebra, English<br />

Fundamentals, ESL Conversation, Spelling,<br />

Notetaking, Term Paper Writing, Academic<br />

Study Skills, Writing Fundamentals Preparation,<br />

Job Research Skills, the Metric System, Math<br />

Anxiety, and Library Media Technology. Students<br />

must take a diagnostic assessment in the Center<br />

prior to enrolling in any of the one-unit courses<br />

offered. Students may enroll in classes through<br />

the fourteenth week of the semester. Add<br />

cards and other materials for enrollment and<br />

registration are available in the Learning Skills<br />

Center, and course materials and supplies are<br />

available for purchase in the Student Bookstore.<br />

The Center offers tutoring in most course areas<br />

taught on campus. See the Learning Skills<br />

section of the class listings for courses offered<br />

this semester.<br />

• A Circulation Desk with textbooks, reserve books,<br />

and Instructional Television video tapes<br />

and newspapers<br />

• Online book catalog, online periodical databases,<br />

and Internet access for library research<br />

• 60 computers for students, including 2 with ADA<br />

capabilities<br />

• Photocopy machines and Microsoft Word<br />

• Study carrels, group study rooms, and two large<br />

reading areas<br />
