English Literacy Program<br />

(formerly the Citizenship Program)<br />

The <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> English Literacy<br />

Program and Citizenship Center provides an<br />

integrated program of services incorporating<br />

English literacy and civics education to<br />

students and members of the community. The<br />

Program offers a broad scope of academic and<br />

naturalization support services. In addition<br />

to acquiring citizenship, the Program assists<br />

immigrant students to develop the skills and<br />

knowledge to enhance their roles as informed<br />

community members, parents, and workers.<br />

This free program offers non-credit classes in<br />

ESL, Speech Interview Skills, Citizenship preparation<br />

and Civics education.The goal of the English Literacy<br />

Program is to provide English language instruction and<br />

knowledge on the rights and responsibilities of citizens<br />

through instruction in naturalization procedures,<br />

citizenship, civic participation, and United States history<br />

and government. In addition to acquiring citizenship,<br />

the center assists immigrant students with developing<br />

the skills and knowledge to enhance their roles as<br />

informed community members, parents, and workers.<br />

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:30 am - 6:30 pm<br />

Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm<br />

Saturday 9:00 am - 2:00 pm<br />

Resources for Education (CARE)<br />

EOP&S is a state-funded program for<br />

nontraditional students who are affected by<br />

educational and economic barriers. The program<br />

motivates students in reaching their career and<br />

educational goals by providing support services<br />

and encouragement. EOP&S provides the<br />

following services: intensive academic, career and<br />

personal counseling, individualized and in-class<br />

tutoring, priority registration, transfer assistance,<br />

educational workshops, and book vouchers.<br />

CARE — Contained within EOP&S is a program<br />

called CARE, a support service program for single<br />

parents receiving TANF/CalWORKs subsidies.<br />

CARE students are eligible for all EOP&S services<br />

plus childcare referrals, meal tickets, parking<br />

permits, auto gas card, parenting and job<br />

preparation seminars. CARE offers personal and<br />

professional support while assisting participants<br />

in breaking the welfare dependency cycle. Bring<br />

your registration fee receipt showing 12 or more<br />

units to Clausen Hall 111B to find out if you<br />

qualify. OSS students must be enrolled in 6 or<br />

more units to apply.<br />
