HOW TO BECOME A NOTARY PUBLIC<br />

This class is designed to assist students with information needed to help them pass the state examination.<br />

Effective Jul 1, 2005 this class must be approved by the Secretary of State. This seminar includes:<br />

Requirements & duties of a Notary; Expectations regarding past and present convictions; How to prevent<br />

Lawsuits; How to keep and maintain a Notarial Journal; Acts constituting practice of Law; Bond<br />

requirements; When to use certificates; Illegal advertising; Avoid having your Notary license revoked or<br />

suspended; Guidelines for Notaries with expertise in immigration/consulting and disabled veterans services.<br />

Test dates and locations of the examination conducted by the State of California. Must be 18 years old and<br />

must show proof of age at time of registration; must have no felonies; be a legal resident of the State of<br />

California; must be able to read, write and understand English; pass a background check.<br />

Material fee of $10 payable at time of registration. Students must be on time & bring a sack lunch.<br />

L.A. COUNTY FOOD SERVICE / FOOD HANDLERS CERTIFICATION PROGRAM<br />

Don’t risk having your food business shut down!!!<br />

Class is held in English, but you may also take Food Certification examination in Spanish.<br />

Las clases se llevan a cabo en Inglés, pero el examen está disponible en Español también.<br />

The California Health and Safety Code, L.A. County Code/Ordinance 97-0071, requires<br />

mandatory Food Handler certification for managers/operators and/or other responsible<br />

parties of all restaurants, markets, mobile food preparation units, commissaries and food<br />

processing establishments. One certified food handler is required to be present during all<br />

hours of operation. This ordinance went into effect January 1999. Now is the time to get certified to protect<br />

your business and profession as a food service provider. This class is approved by the American Culinary<br />

Federation and L.A. County Health Department. Limit is 18 students. Exam will be given at this class.<br />

Material fee of $80 payable at time of registration for ServSafe textbook and test Scantron. If you have<br />

failed the test previously and already have the ServSafe textbook, you have the option of only<br />

purchasing the test Scantron for $50. Re-certification means your license has expired and you need to<br />

renew, registration fee is $110 and textbook with test Scantron is $80. After payment, be sure to pick<br />

your book up at <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> in the Administration Building Room 112 before class starts.<br />

This is an 8-hour class with a half-hour break.<br />

Presented will be a series of exercises and role play scenarios to empower you to be a more polished<br />

speaker. Material fee of $10 payable at time of registration.<br />
