VETERINARY ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM | Love Animals? 

Begin a New Career in Five weeks 

As a Veterinary Assistant you will help the Veterinarian or the Veterinarian 

Technician in their daily tasks. You will feed, water, and examine pets for 

signs of illness, disease, or injury; clean and disinfect cages and work areas, 

as well as sterilize surgical equipment in laboratories, animal hospitals and 

clinics. This program combines 35 hours of classroom instruction with a 24 

hour volunteer experience. The voluntary experience component requires 

students to volunteer their time. Each student will be responsible for 

coordinating his or her volunteer experience. 

Class fee of $999 includes books, consumable supplies, and course 

completion certificate. A payment plan is available.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM | Become a Pharmacy 

Technician in Seven Months 

Pharmacy Technicians are in high-demand, with job opportunities projected 

to grow 25 percent by 2016. The prescription drug industry is changing 

everyday. With those changes comes a need for a new wave of highly 

trained pharmacy technicians. Successful graduates of this program are 

prepared for careers in retail and hospital pharmacy settings. A Pharmacy 

Technician assists the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, 

referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, inventory control and 

purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordinating billing. This 

course combines 182 hours of classroom instruction with 120 hours of 

pharmacy externship to provide you with a complete learning experience. 

Class fee of $2,895 covers books, supplies, externship, and course

get you to create some cool art. 


READING

SPANISH FOR KIDS (Ages 17 and under) 

An introductory class open to young people who want to learn the basic fundamentals of reading, writing and 

speaking Spanish. In addition to providing the practice needed to aid retention, this class will also provide 

the opportunity to develop a higher level of thinking skills as it aims at teaching how to use the language 

creatively. Students will be using a syllabus covering topics appropriate to their age and interest. Study 

materials will be provided at no extra cost. Emphasis will be placed on grammar, pronunciation and 

conversational exercises. Students must have email/Internet access to download handouts. No class July 4.

MAKE IT MARVELOUS WITH iMOVIE (Ages 9-15) 

Lights, Camera, Action! This summer, learn the ins and outs of iMovie and how to make a 

film in about the time it takes to watch one. Add your own videos, pictures, sound 

effects, quickly and easily! Then add cool visual effects and transition to make your next 

movie masterpiece—all with a click, a drag and a creative mind. Join this fun-filled class 

where kids become filmmakers. Mac computers will be used. Limited enrollment. 


FRENCH FOR KIDS & TEENS (Ages 7-16) 

French is a fun language spoken around the world. Students will partake in a wide range of activities from 

pronunciation of the alphabet, numbers, colors, days, weeks, and months to useful conversations that will 

increase vocabulary and promote a cultural interest. Material fee of $22 payable at time of registration is 

for cost of book, CD and handouts. Book title is: Collins French Club: Book 1, by Rosi McNab - ISBN-13-

PAINTING AND WATERCOLORS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE (Ages 9-17) 

Watercolor and Paint the most beautiful pictures ever!!! 

Your teacher will get you started in basic watercolor and paint brush stroke techniques. You will develop 

your natural and hidden artistic talents of visualizing and expressing everyday objects as watercolor images. 

Students will be given total encouragement and support in developing their artistic skills at their own pace. 

Instructor works for Disneyland as an artist and has showcased his works at art galleries throughout the 

U.S.A. 

Bring paper, pencil and basic watercolor set and brushes to class, please make sure at least one of your 

brushes is high grade and excellent quality. Teacher will address paint materials in class. 

No experience is needed. 


BALLET FOR KIDS 

This is an introduction to pre-ballet techniques for children. This program will focus 

on the basic positions, techniques, steps, and discipline of ballet. This workshop will 

also provide instruction on the correct use of the physical mechanics on motion, 

encouraging the spirit of dance in children.

JUDO FOR CHILDREN (Ages 6-13) 

Judo is an official Olympic sport that offers self-defense skills in throwing & groundwork 

(grappling). Each class begins with warm-up exercises that increase cardiovascular and 

respiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and agility. This is an introductory 

course that combines beginners with intermediate and advanced students. Students have the 

option of belt rank promotion. The Southern California Black Belt Association officially 

recognizes all belt ranks. Wear a long sleeve sweatshirt or judo uniform.

TENNIS FOR CHILDREN & TEENS (Ages 8-18) 

Hey Kids, get your tennis rackets and have fun learning how to play tennis. Students will learn power

Develop your creativity and save money making your own clothes in a safe comfortable 

setting. Sewing lessons will include proper sewing machine operation, fabric selection, 

personal body measurements, and introduction to patterns and garments construction with

understanding/experiencing color composition, value and design impact. Also learn mixing 

colors, differing paint qualities, application, and use of brushes. All are welcome! Bring

About Group Swimming: Swimming lessons for children and adults will be conducted throughout 

the quarter. Minimum age of 5 years is required for non-swimmers. Each group will be limited in 

enrollment and is designed for beginners only. All participants must wear rubber/plastic shower sandals and 

bring a towel. Students should be wearing swimsuits when they arrive for lessons. 

Parents and legal guardians of children enrolled in the swim program must not leave their 

children alone and unattended before and after their swimming lessons. Children must be picked-up on time,

Early registration assures a place in “high–demand” classes. Registration is on a first come first- served basis, 

please make every effort to register prior to the start date of the class. Your registration may make a 

difference if a class goes or is canceled.

Supplies and Equipment 

Minimum enrollment is required to run classes. Please confirm class status before purchasing any supplies or 

renting any equipment. 

Parking 

Students registered for Community Services classes may purchase a parking permit for 

$10. Parking permits are non-refundable. All vehicles parked in a campus parking lot 

must display a valid permit at all times. Overnight parking is prohibited. Permits must 

be properly displayed hanging from the rear view mirror, facing out or facing up on the driver’s side of the 

dashboard. Improperly displayed permits will result in citation. A permit does not exempt you from receiving 

a citation. It is your responsibility to properly display your permit. Students may purchase a daily parking 

permit for $2 from the permit dispensing machines in parking lots 1 and 2. 

Cancelations 

LACC Community Services reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or combine workshops if fewer than the 

required minimum numbers of students are enrolled. We also reserve the right to substitute instructors or 

reschedule classrooms and class times if such a change is necessary. If a workshop is cancelled or 

rescheduled by Community Services you may transfer to another workshop or a full refund will be issued in 

the same format as originally paid within 20 – 30 working business days. All registrants will be notified of such 

changes by telephone, provided they have given us a daytime phone number. 

Transfers 

To transfer to another class, requests must be made in writing at least 48 hours before the first class 

meeting. Transfer requests will not be granted after the first class meeting. Please note there is a one-time 

transfer per class only. 

Refunds - Choose classes carefully! 

There are no refunds after a class has begun. Student requested refunds must be made in writing 48 hours 

before the class begins. There will be a $13 processing fee plus $2 registration fee ($15 total) per class as 

mandated by the Board of Trustees. Please allow 20 – 30 working business days for your refund request to be 

processed in the same format as originally paid. 

Important information: Refunds ARE NOT issued for absences nor prorated for late registration. Missed class 

meetings may not be made up in another class. There is no auditing of classes. 

Awards of Completion 

Students may request an Award of Completion for any of our Community Services 

classes for just $10. At least 90% of the class must be attended. 

Classes for Kids 

A Release and Medical Consent form will be sent along with your confirmation letter. Complete and return 

this form to the instructor at the first class. Go to communityservices.lacitycollege.edu, and a copy of the 

release form will be included at the time of regstration. 

Release & Waivers 

When attending a class a trip off-campus, LACC requires all participants carry medical/accident insurance, 

and does not provide this coverage. All participants are required to sign a liability waiver prior to departure. 

LACC Community Services provides content that is frequently updated and improved upon. New content will be added as it is available.

This is an introductory (beginner’s) course mixed with 

intermediate students. Basic judo skills include
