If a full District response is likely to be required, notify the District ALERT Coordinator and District Governor. 5. If an LCIF Grant is required, the District Governor must make the request. The District Treasurer must arrange fund transfers and track how funds are used. The District Secretary will record the clubs involved, the hours worked, and the services performed. The District ALERT Coordinator will assist the Secretary in completing an “After Action Report”. GLT District Coordinators: New for this year is the “Emerging Lions Leadership Institute”. This is an excellent opportunity for those Lions who have not yet held the office of Club President and have the desire to take the first step in being involved in Leadership. It is a chance to learn skills required to be a successful leader at the club level and to build on for leadership positions in the future. The “Emerging Lions Leadership Institute” for the USA, and its affiliates, Bermuda and the Bahamas, will be offered in Tampa, Florida on September 17-20, 2012. We seek your assistance to help recruit qualified Lion participants for the institute. It is a valuable opportunity to build on skills that enhance the leadership qualities at the club level. The institute in Tampa is designated as an “Emerging Lions Leadership Institute” and is targeted to Lions that have not yet been club president. Lions Clubs International will provide meals and lodging according to the schedule of the institute. Additionally, LCI will make appropriate hotel reservations for each participant on a twin-share basis. Please note that according to new board policy, a non-refundable participation fee of US$95.00 (or the equivalent in local currency) will be required to offset these costs for all institutes. This fee will be due no less than four weeks prior to the institute start date. Participants are responsible for all travel expenses to and from the designated venue inclusive to all relevant ground transportation charges. Please help us to recruit qualified Lions for this institute by providing a copy of the application packet to Lions leaders in your district, including your district governor’s team, region and zone chairpersons, to remind them of this event. Please ask them to promote the institute and actively encourage qualified candidates to apply. The success of this institute depends on the participation of Lions leaders from across your constitutional area. SPOTLIGHT ON NEW MEMBERS OUR NEW DISTRICT 22-W LIONS Welcome from all of us in District 22W! It is a bittersweet moment for many of us who are finishing our year of service in different capacities in the Cabinet, and throughout our great District. That, fellow Lions, is what Lionism is all about; embracing new opportunities to serve our communities directly and the world indirectly, by accepting new and challenging positions in the Cabinet, the District and our clubs, as we are invited to do so by our new leaders. We hope that when your turn comes to serve you will accept the challenge and move forward in Lionism. Our district has welcomed (178) new Lions since July 2011. Remember that even though our clubs have Membership Chairs, as our wise PDG Marion Carmack always reminds us, “Each club member is a Membership Chair” and it’s up to us to invite our friends and neighbors to our meetings, so that many more can experience what being a Lion is all about. Lion Dave had received honors as “Lion of the Year”, a “Lions Vision Research Foundation Knights of the Blind Pyramid”, and a “Melvin Jones Fellowship”. Middletown Lions Club: Lion Vernon Smith passed away on June 1 st . Vernon had been an integral part of the Middletown Lions for over (30) years. Taneytown Lions Club: Lion Betty Buffington passed away on June 18th. Betty and her husband, Harry, had just enjoyed the Caribbean cruise, sponsored by the Taneytown Lions, at the end of March. Thurmont Lions Club: Lion Russell Favorite Jr. passed away on June 8th. Russell joined the Thurmont Lions Club in July 2006.
