Directors’ R EPORT for the year ended 31 December 1999 The Directors submit their report together with the audited accounts of the Group and of the Company for the financial year ended 31 December 1999. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES The principal activities of the Company during the financial year are to carry out the business of publication, printing and distribution of newspapers, magazines and books. The principal activities of the subsidiary companies during the financial year are set out in note 15 to the accounts. There have been no significant changes in the nature of these activities during the financial year. DIVIDENDS Dividends paid, declared or proposed since the end of the Company’s previous financial year were as follows:- (a) In respect of the financial year ended 31 December 1999: A proposed final dividend of 8% less tax at 28% 4,456,675 MOVEMENTS ON RESERVES AND PROVISIONS There were no material transfers to or from reserves or provisions during the financial year other than those disclosed in the notes to the accounts.
