Automated information systems<br />

<strong>CDC</strong> Fax Information System. <strong>CDC</strong> developed<br />

a fax information system for health care<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals <strong>and</strong> others who would like to<br />

receive health information by fax. Telephone<br />

callers first access the main <strong>CDC</strong> menu <strong>and</strong><br />

then select TB-related topics. Designed to<br />

answer many routine questions about TB, the<br />

system can provide up-to-date information by<br />

fax or mail. Callers can choose to receive<br />

general information about TB or specific<br />

information about treatment, diagnosis, BCG,<br />

infection control, or screening. The Fax<br />

Information System can be accessed by dialing<br />

toll free 888-<strong>CDC</strong>-FAXX (888-232-3299). To<br />

receive a listing <strong>of</strong> documents available by fax,<br />

request document number 250000. The fax<br />

sheet may also be viewed on DTBE’s Web site<br />

at http://www.cdc.gov/nchstp/tb.<br />

developed a voice information system for<br />

health care pr<strong>of</strong>essionals <strong>and</strong> others who call<br />

for specific disease information. Callers first<br />

access the main <strong>CDC</strong> menu <strong>and</strong> then select<br />

TB-related topics. Designed to answer many<br />

routine questions about TB, the system can<br />

or mail. Callers who choose to listen to the<br />

voice recordings can receive general information<br />

the Internet. The site provides access to TBrelated<br />

Morbidity <strong>and</strong> Mortality Weekly Reports<br />

(MMWRs), educational materials, <strong>and</strong> guidelines.<br />

DTBE On-Line Ordering System. DTBE<br />

educational <strong>and</strong> training materials can now be<br />

ordered via the Internet. The on-line ordering<br />

system provides a convenient way to order<br />

DTBE materials. Highlights <strong>of</strong> the system<br />

include order confirmation via the Internet<br />

<strong>and</strong>, if an e-mail address is provided, order<br />

confirmation when the order has been filled.<br />

Materials<br />

<strong>Control</strong>ling TB in Correctional Facilities<br />

Booklet <strong>and</strong> Slides - 1995. This booklet <strong>and</strong><br />

accompanying slide set, developed in 1995,<br />

have been updated in regard to the Advisory<br />

Council for the Elimination <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tuberculosis</strong><br />

(ACET) statement with recommendations for<br />

jails <strong>and</strong> prisons. It also provides a comprehensive<br />

basic reference on TB specifically for<br />

correctional facility staff. The booklets are<br />

available from each state TB <strong>of</strong>fice or the<br />

DTBE. Slide sets were distributed to all state<br />

<strong>and</strong> big city TB programs; however, additional<br />

slide sets are available for purchase ($75 per<br />

set) from the National Technical Information<br />

Service (800-553-6847 or 703-605-6000), item<br />

number AVA19830SS00. The slide set can<br />

also be viewed <strong>and</strong> downloaded from DTBE’s<br />

Core Curriculum on <strong>Tuberculosis</strong> Booklet<br />

<strong>and</strong> Slides - 1994. The Core Curriculum on<br />

<strong>Tuberculosis</strong> was originally developed in 1990<br />

with the American Lung Association for use<br />

in preparing <strong>and</strong> planning educational activities<br />

or as a reference for the practicing clinician<br />

caring for patients with TB or TB infection.<br />
