3. Plant was issued an NR on March 23, 2004 for an incident of inhumane handling, as<br />
described below:<br />
At approximately 0825 hrs while performing ante-mortem inspection, I observed plant<br />
employees rinsing down a pen with hogs in it with 155 degree hot water. The employee<br />
was screaming, telling the hogs, “holler, holler.” The hogs were screaming and<br />
crowding into the corner, trying to get away from the hot water. I then told the employee<br />
to stop and sent another employee to get the manager…. Discussions have been held<br />
with management on previous occasion concerning the use of hot water when hogs are<br />
in the pens.<br />
