Acer Altos Server Family Management Tools Performance Management The ASM-Station allows the system administrator to check and set performance criteria for each server on the network, issuing an alarm when pre-set thresholds are reached, thus enabling the administrator to deal with the problem before it becomes critical. The monitored performance data includes: • Basic system information on the system itself, mainboard, BIOS, memory, and system administrator. • DMI information which includes DMI bios, mainboard, processor, memory, cache, slot, connector, and onboard device. • I/O information on devices such as serial ports, PS2 mouse, parallel port, and the video card of the monitored server. • Information on storage devices hard disks, CD-ROM, and floppy disk. • Information on NIC devices. • Health information of IPMI-supported devices such as sensors (CPU voltage and temperature, system voltage, fan, chassis and RDM status), and System Event Log (SEL). • Information on all the resources of the server machine, including IRQ, DMA, I/O port, and memory address. • Information on CPU performance (up to 4 CPU’s). • Memory utilisation information (threshold setting may also be changed from the ASM Console). • File system utilisation (threshold setting may also be changed from the ASM Console). • Disk utilisation information, including disk efficiency and performance, of SCO Open Server and Windows NT/2000 (only). • Network Interface Card (NIC) information which includes data transmission and utilisation. • NIC fault occurred during data transmission. • OS information, including connected users, drivers, processes, installed software, NT services, and environment variables. Configuration Management Through the use of sophisticated hardware and software interfaces, Acer’s Advanced Server Manager Pro collects and displays the details about each server’s hardware, software and BIOS configuration, including: • System information - details the specific Acer server model, name and location, operating system and version, number of logged-on users, network address and drivers currently in use. • System configuration - Includes details of hardware and BIOS levels, processor type, I/O slots and devices, memory layout, interrupt use, DMA channel assignments and CPU cache. • I/O devices - Specifies input/output devices and their connections to the server, in addition to keyboard and video adapters and serial and parallel I/O ports. • Storage information - Lists each fixed disk attached to the server, including the controller model and type, as well as each disk drive model, type and size. • Network Interface card information - Lists each network interface card installed in the server along with the type, model, slot where it is installed, the assigned interrupt, I/O port and base memory address. Security The ASM Pro has a built in security subsystem that prevents inadvertent or malicious use of the ASM-Pro facilities. Password security on both ASM-Station and ASM-Agent blocks access to and modification of critical server data to unauthorised system personnel.
WebASM WebASM takes system management a stage further by providing Web-based SNMP server management tools to monitor Acer Altos server systems with the ASM Pro Agent installed. This allows system administrators to monitor and manage system performance and monitor status from a remote console through a web browser via an Internet or Intranet environment, thus broadening the scope of system management and monitoring access across a network. Remote Diagnostic Manager The Remote Diagnostic Manager and its companion product, Advance Server Manager Pro, provide all the tools you need to monitor the health of your server, also remotely. RDM consists of five major components: the RDM hardware module, software driver, server BIOS, hidden partition and the RDM-Station software. These components combine to provide a rapid recovery system overcoming the distance barriers between the central computing site and its distributed servers. If a server fails, the RDM module provides the connection between hardware and software to monitor server operation and begin the notification process. The RDM can assist in diagnosing problems and restoring the server to operation in all but the most severe failures. Acer EasyBuild This is a user friendly and intelligent server integration tool which provides a fully integrated solution to ensure maximum reliability and compatibility. With Acer EasyBuild, setting up your business’s server is as uncomplicated as it is effortless, because it has been specially engineered to provide important and essential functions to the entire Acer Altos server family, from configuration and installation to management and remote diagnostics, including access to online information. Installation and Configuration Acer EasyBuild provides a fast, intelligent and simplified way to install and optimise operating systems on Acer Altos servers. The operating system installation GUI is extremely user friendly and the installation procedure is a matter of a few clicks as the entire installation process is fully automated. It also comes complete with a software manager which can be run on a Windows workstation in order to set up the network client and then connect to the Acer Altos server. Straightforward and rapid system configuration is also guaranteed by Acer Easy- Build which automatically detects all system peripherals such as LAN controllers, SCSI controllers, RAID controllers, Acer Remote Diagnostic Manager module, video controllers, etc. It can also intelligently configure and prepare the Acer Altos server or servers for quick operating system installation, as well as dramatically simplify the setting up of a RAID disk array subsystem and other system configurations. Server Management Because mission critical applications and database services require fail-safe server management applications, the Acer EasyBuild package includes an Acer Advanced Server Manager Pro as well as an essential diagnostic utility, the Remote Diagnostic Manager (RDM). The RDM meticuloously tests major hardware components to ensure system reliability and to guarantee maximum system uptime.
