• Acer ASM
The Acer Advanced Server Manager (ASM), standard delivered with every Altos
server, makes it easy to manage and monitor the system. In addition to basic information,
in-depth details on processor performance, memory utilisation, file
system, disk and Network Interface Card (NIC) utilisation, NIC fault, OS and resources
information, are also provided.
The complete ASM package consist of two key elements :
a) ASM-Agent
This is a non-stop program that collects information about the server - not only basic
data but also system health status - and transmits it to the ASM station.
b) ASM-Station
A Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT or Windows 2000 workstation-
based ASM-Station can be installed in any network. Communication with
the ASM-Agent is carried out through industry-standard Simple Network Mana-
gement Protocol (SNMP), supporting any agents running under Windows ® NT
and Windows ® 2000 server, Novell NetWare and Caldera (SCO) Unix.
From this workstation, system administrators can define network, query server
operations, set threshold levels, and locate potential problems.
• Fault Management
The ASM-Station’s fault management interface defines the actions required
when user-defined or pre-set threshold values are exceeded, or when hardware
errors are detected by the special ASM hardware circuitry.
• System Alert Manager
This is a utility that runs in the background of the ASM Console system every
time it boots up. It actively monitors the systems in the network for faults and
malfunctions, warning the administrator if and when they occur.
• Event Logging
The ASM-Station keeps a record of each event that occurs in the networked
systems. Errors or faults during the event are also registered in this file. A viewer
allows the administrator to see all the events logged.
