Discussion<br />

The BaFL filtering process enriches the perf<strong>or</strong>mance <strong>of</strong> the standard Affymetrix Tm Microarray<br />

experiment beyond that <strong>of</strong> a single ProbeSet measurement. The BaFL approach allows an<br />

investigat<strong>or</strong> to delve into the standard Microarray black box and assess individual probe<br />

perf<strong>or</strong>mance. The ability to evaluate probe perf<strong>or</strong>mance can facilitate the investigat<strong>or</strong>’s<br />

identification <strong>of</strong> transcript regions <strong>of</strong> interest, which may prove to be c<strong>or</strong>related to the phenotype<br />

<strong>of</strong> the disease state. Additionally, the BaFL approach allows the investigat<strong>or</strong> to identify entire<br />

ProbeSets f<strong>or</strong> which one tissue state demonstrates negligible transcript concentrations in contrast<br />

to the second tissue state. Finally, modified CDF files can be constructed to facilitate the<br />
