Food wholesalers are operating under a price ceiling and resent increased<br />

local transportation costs. One transportation contractor is charging<br />

$36.00 more per container than the other local contractors. This additional<br />

freight cost is difficult to absorb under the price ceiling.<br />

a. Rice, salt, paste products, beans and peas (dried), cereals, milk<br />

and paper products becoming short in supply.<br />

b. Restaurants purchasing from supermarkets as wholesalers stocks<br />

depleted.<br />

10. October 1, 1971<br />

a. Hospital supplies, such as, sponges, gauze and tubing being air-<br />

freighted to Hilo.<br />

b. Most sales outlets out of rice.
