The New Mexico National Guard and
Family Support Program hosted its annual
Youth Adventure Camp July 7- 9, 2011, at
the Onate Complex in Santa Fe, N.M.
The annual youth camp is open to relatives
of New Mexico National Guard servicemembers
who are between the ages of 7 to
14 years old. The children are separated by
age into their respective groups and have
the opportunity to have a military experience
by wearing a uniform that includes a
team t-shirt and hat, learning drill and ceremony
and making up cadences.
“The campers were very involved in all
the activities that the camp offered,” said
Sgt. Maj. Brenda Mallary, commander of the
13-14 year olds and a 3rd year volunteer.

gives children a sample of military life
The Chaplain Corps of the New Mexico National Guard is
fully staffed and ready to support the needs of our soldiers and
their families. With the recent appointments of Chaplin Capt. Will
Pasieczny as the chaplain for the 717th Brigade Support Bn. in
Roswell and Chaplin Capt. Timothy Martin as the chaplain for the
1st Bn., 200th Infantry of Las Cruces, the Chaplain Corps has
reached staffi ng capacity.
In February, Chaplain Capt. T. C. Broom was appointed as
chaplain for the 615th Transportation Bn. Chaplin Lt. Col. Bruce
Farrell transferred into the New Mexico National Guard as the Joint
Forces Headquarters chaplain last fall.
All of these chaplains have served in support of contingency
operations in theater.
Chaplain Candidate 1st Lt. Stephen Jimenez of Albuquerque,
transferred into the New Mexico National Guard and is slated to
appear before the November Chaplain Accessioning board. He
will be assigned to the 515th Combat Sustainment Support Bn.
in Belen.
Chaplin Maj. Michael Lindsay is currently deployed in Kosovo.
“The campers were kept busy the entire
time. The campers had a great time.”
The teams participated in hands-on
weapons familiarization, museum visits, rappelling,
paint ball, and water survival activities.
New Mexico law enforcement personnel
also volunteered their time and expertise
for the youth by presenting drug and alcohol
awareness and prevention training.
The New Mexico National Guard Youth
Adventure Camp experience enables participants
to better understand and appreciate
their relatives’ service to our state
and country.
According to Mallary, this year’s camp
was yet again a success for all involved.
“The overall camp was a success. I
enjoy working with all the volunteers during
the camp. It is great how we all work
together to make the camp a success,”
said Mallary.

With Chaplin Capt. Ben Yazzie assigned to 226th Military Police
Bn. and Chaplin Capt. Ricardo Russo assigned to the Onate Training
Complex, the chaplain positions for the organization are fi lled.
The organization is currently recruiting chaplain candidates for
the future needs and is focusing their efforts on Roman Catholic
priests.
