This was at the SW. corner of the parish, a little more<br />

than f m. NE. of Fosbury (OMi).<br />

12. Thonne a north he Wyrt TValan : ' Then ever north<br />

<strong>by</strong> the Hillfoot.'<br />

The survey turns N. up the W. <strong>by</strong>. which runs more or<br />

less along the side of the ridge W. of Henna Dene. The<br />

hillfoot is probably the slope towards the dean.<br />

13. Thaet on efen thone Greatan A esc : 'Then to<br />

a level with the Great Ashtree.'<br />

This tree was probably near the S. end of Ham Ashley<br />

Copse (OMi).<br />

14. Thonne north ondlong thaes Hlinces : ' Then north<br />

along the Lynch.'<br />

This was probably near the head of the W. branch of<br />

Henna Dene, level with the S. end of Ham Ashley Copse<br />

(OMi).<br />

15. Thaet on bofan Hangran : ' Then above the Hanging<br />

Wood.'<br />

Probably the hanging wood was a forerunner of Ham<br />

Ashley Copse (OMi).<br />

16. Thonne ondlong Hagan 1 : 'Then along the Deer<br />

Fence (or Game Enclosure).'<br />

The haga <strong>must</strong> have <strong>be</strong>en towards the N. end of Ham<br />

Ashley Copse.<br />

17. On Wifiling Falod weste weardne : ' To the west<br />

side of the Sheepfold of the son of Wifel.'<br />

Throughout the <strong>who</strong>le of <strong>this</strong> latter half of the survey<br />

the landmarks come very thickly. The fold <strong>must</strong> have stood<br />

near the N. end of Ham Ashley Copse (OM6), perhaps<br />

i m. SSE. of Rivar (OMi).<br />

18. Thonne north ofer Dune: 'Then north over the<br />

Down.'<br />

This is the down on Rivar Hill, immed. SE. of Rivar<br />

(OMI).<br />

19. On Meos Hlinc weste weardne ·. ' To the west side<br />

of Moss Lynch.'<br />

This ledge of ploughland <strong>must</strong> have <strong>be</strong>en on the W. <strong>by</strong>.<br />

due E. of Rivar (OMi), where the steep slope of Rivar Hill<br />

<strong>be</strong>gins.<br />

20. Thonne a dune on tha Tfre on <strong>be</strong>ofan Hammes Hecgan<br />
