which the W. <strong>by</strong>. crosses i m. E. of the manor house (OMi)<br />

at Burcom<strong>be</strong>.<br />

11. Fhonan on Ugganford: 'Then to Ucga's Ford<br />

(Ugford).'<br />

This is the ford itself, not the hamlet. The ford was<br />

probably due S. of Ugford (OMi). The modern <strong>by</strong>. goes<br />

from the road to the river down a backwater which enters<br />

the Nadder f m. above where the ford <strong>must</strong> have <strong>be</strong>en.<br />

12. And swa adune and lang streames on tha Mylen<br />

TV are : ' And so down along stream to the Mill Weir.'<br />

The weir <strong>must</strong> have' <strong>be</strong>en near Bull Bridge. See I.<br />

The tree would <strong>be</strong> somewhere on the Stratford Tony<br />

road <strong>be</strong>tween Bull Bridge and the point where the road<br />

from Burcom<strong>be</strong> joins it.<br />

Survey.<br />

1. Aerest endlang the Fer to Alorbroke : 'First along<br />

the Furrow to Alder Brook.'<br />

The survey <strong>be</strong>gins at the NE. corner of the parish, 1 fur.<br />

NNE. of the Gib (OMi). The furrow seems to have run<br />

S. for about 2i fur. to the brook which flows at the W. foot<br />

of Gatcomb Hill (OMi).<br />

This is the Alrbroe or Alder Brook.<br />
