The white way ran up the slope of the down at the<br />

S. end of the E. <strong>by</strong>. towards the Row Ditch (OMi) on<br />

Sutton Down (OMi).<br />

2. Thonon on tha Readan Hane 1 : ' Then to the Red<br />

Stone.'<br />

The red stone was almost certainly at the SE. corner<br />

of the parish, up on the ridge close to Row Ditch (OMi).<br />

3. Of, etc. on thone Herepath : ' From the Stone to the<br />

Highway.'<br />

This is the great ridgeway which forms the <strong>who</strong>le of the<br />

S. <strong>by</strong>. of the parish. 2<br />

4. To Posses Hlaewe : ' To Poss's Low (or Tumulus).'<br />

This is the tumulus 1 fur. NW. of the SW. corner of<br />

the parish, close <strong>by</strong> the British village (OMi) on Middle<br />

Down (OMi).<br />

as the site of <strong>this</strong> stone is well marked, it<br />

would <strong>be</strong> interesting if some local investigator<br />

would examine the spot, and see whether<br />

the stone is still there, and, if so, what is its<br />

geological nature.<br />
