more than £ m. NNW. of Pewsey Wharf (OMi).<br />

Spring to the Hoar Appletree.'<br />

This name is preserved in <strong>that</strong> of Maizeley Coppice, the<br />

sm<strong>all</strong> wood which stands at an angle in the <strong>by</strong>. about 300 yds..<br />

N. of the entrenchment c<strong>all</strong>ed Giant's Grave (OMi). The<br />

name has for some reason got corrupted <strong>by</strong> popular<br />

etymology. The white holes of 24 <strong>must</strong> have <strong>be</strong>en on the<br />

<strong>by</strong>. near West Wick Farm (OMi).<br />

26. Of, etc. on Wadleage northeweardre : ' From Moss<br />

Lea to Woad Lea on its northerly side.'<br />

27. Of, etc. on Hremnes Geat: ' From Woad Lea to<br />

Raven's Gate.'<br />

28. Of, etc. to Emnan Leage: ' From Raven's Gate to<br />

Level Lea.'<br />

29. Of, etc. eft to thaere Aec the we aer aet fruman<br />

nemdon : ' From Level Lea to the Oaktree from which we<br />

took our <strong>be</strong>ginning.'<br />

All <strong>these</strong> landmarks, 26-29, <strong>must</strong> have <strong>be</strong>en on the comparatively<br />

short stretch of <strong>by</strong>. <strong>be</strong>tween Moss Lea and the<br />

lonely oak of 1.<br />
