wherever it was, <strong>must</strong> have <strong>be</strong>en somewhere near the W. <strong>by</strong>.<br />

The Burh of 9 is not traceable on the map ; but it is<br />

probable <strong>that</strong> an enquirer <strong>who</strong> searched the down near the<br />

ridgeway S. of East Kennett might find traces of it.<br />

The sites of landmarks 15-18 are quite indeterminable.<br />

19. Of, etc. eft on thone Chiriestede : ' From Lorta's<br />

Lea once more to the Farmsteading near the Church.'<br />

The charter, B.875, K.1162, which B. ascri<strong>be</strong>s to<br />

Overton, Wilts., has a brief survey attached to it which has<br />

no landmarks corresponding to <strong>those</strong> of the <strong>charters</strong> here<br />

given. I do not think it is a charter of <strong>this</strong> Overton ; and<br />

it is certainly not a charter of Overton, Hants. A reference<br />

to a river Wusa (Ouse) in the survey makes me think <strong>that</strong> it<br />

<strong>be</strong>longs to Overton in the N. Riding of Yorkshire.<br />
