Bill of Materials If the icon is in the pushed state, then upon calling the command the window will appear on the screen, “Select BOM ‘name’ Record”. The title of this window reflects the name of the BOM from which the data will be copied when setting the positions. Attention: when setting the positions, the BOM is used that was selected in the command “BM: Bills of Materials”. The following options allow zooming the BOM image in this window: Zoom in. Zoom out. Scale. Toggle Non-printing Chars. Toggles the display of special characters. Toggle variable names. For variables used in the BOM, this option toggles the display of the variable name and its value. Keep visible. Allows continuously setting several positions. The window stays open upon selecting a record. Merge records. With the option set, the records merged in the BOM will stay merge in the record selection window. With the option turned off, each fragment record will be displayed in the record selection window separately. (This mode is recommended for more accurate binding of the leader note to the fragment.) Select a record in this window. The fragment or the projection element corresponding to this record will be highlighted in the drawing. (If the 3D model exists, then the 3D fragment is also highlighted.) The leader note creation command will now activate. 635
Fundamentals. Two-Dimensional Design 636 Move the pointer to the selected fragment and create a leader note by defining two points. The leader note parameters dialog box will appear on the screen. The position number of the selected record appears in the respective parameter input box automatically (see the chapter “Leader Notes”). There is yet another way to create a BOM leader note. Move the pointer to the desired 2D fragment. The fragment and the respective record will be highlighted. If the drawing was created by projecting the 3D model, then move the pointer to one of the lines in the 2D projection. The projection and the 3D fragment will be highlighted, along with the record corresponding to this fragment. The further steps are the same as in the former approach. The records, whose positions have not been set yet, are marked by a certain color in the record selection window. The highlighting color is defined by the parameter “Background Color of Records Linked with Positions” in the command “SO: Set System Options” on the “BOM” tab. The described command provides two-way referencing between the BOM record and the leader note position set in the drawing (the BOM leader). Upon any changes in the assembly or in the BOM properties that affect the numbers of the record positions in the BOM, the positions set in the assembly will automatically adjust after refreshing. The positions can be refreshed by using the following commands: 1. The command “BRP: Refresh BOM Leader Note Positions”: Keyboard Textual Menu Icon “Tools|Bill of Materials| Update Positions” This command is convenient when modifying the sorting conditions or other parameters that affect position numbers in the BOM. In the described cases, this command is sufficient. As a result, the positions in the assembly will update and assume the appropriate numbers. 2. The command “BRA: Refresh Bills of Materials and Leader Note Positions”: Keyboard Textual Menu Icon “Tools|Bill of Materials| Update All” This command can be conveniently used when modifying the assembly, as fragments are inserted or removed. In this case, upon calling the command, the BOM is updated along with the positions set in the assembly.
