Creating Internal Database
524
Let’s review database creation using the bushing example. First, create a parametric drawing of a bushing
with the number of variables matching the number of columns in the table shown above. Now, we need to
create a database and select the desired values from it.
The internal database has a table structure. The rows of the table will be called records, the columns -
fields.
Each record has its number. The first record is number one, the second - number two, and so on. A field is
identified by its name. The length of the field name should not be greater than 10 characters. The field name
can be an arbitrary string of letters, numbers and the underline sign ( _ ). The string should begin with a
letter. All field names within one database should be unique.
The fields can be of the following types:
Integer. You can input only integer numbers in this field.
Real. You can input only real numbers in this field.
Text. You can input arbitrary text information in this field.
Obviously, the field “Bushing code” contains textual information, the field “d” - integers, while the
field “Weight” - real numbers.
Internal databases are created using the command “ID: Edit Database”. The command is called as:
Keyboard Textual Menu Icon
“Parameters|Database”
Upon calling the command, the Database Editor window is displayed on the screen .
If no other DBs exist in the drawing, then only two
commands are available: create a new database and open an
external database. Select the command “Create New
Database”. This command creates a new internal database
or a database by reference. The dialog box comes up,
“Database Properties”. In this dialog, define the name of
the new database and enter a comment for it. Each DB has
its unique name. A DB name is a string of characters (no
more than 10).
Note that the database names are case sensitive.
The names BASE_1 and base_1 are considered
two distinct names. The same is true for the field
names.
Once the database name and the comment are entered, proceed with creating fields. The dialog box for
defining the first field parameters appears right after closing the previous dialog. The dialog box “Column
Properties” allows defining the name of the field, its type, length and a comment.
