Gammon Promoted<br />

SALT LAKE CITY — Colonel Kenneth L. Gammon, fulltime<br />
director of the Utah National Guard’s Joint Staff, was<br />
promoted to brigadier general in an offi cial ceremony July 14.<br />
Gammon, of Kaysville, enlisted in the Utah Air National<br />
Guard’s 299th Range Control Squadron in 1984. He was<br />
commissioned in 1988 and joined the Utah Air Guard’s fulltime<br />
technician force in 1991.<br />
During his career Gammon has served as an operations<br />
training offi cer, director of operations, detachment<br />
commander, squadron commander, group commander and<br />
vice wing commander. He holds qualifi cations as an air traffi c<br />
controller, air weapons controller, senior director, mission<br />
crew commander and battle commander.<br />
In 2003-2004 he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi<br />
Freedom with the 109th Air Control Squadron. He has also<br />
deployed for Operations Noble Eagle, Southern Watch and<br />
Joint Endeavor.<br />
Gammon’s awards and decorations include the<br />
Meritorious Service Medal (with four oak-leaf clusters), Air<br />
Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal,<br />
Combat Readiness Medal (with six oak-leaf clusters), National<br />
Defense Service Medal (with one service star), Armed Forces<br />
Expeditionary Medal (with one service star), Iraq Campaign<br />
Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.<br />
SOS Ropes Course<br />

PARK CITY, Utah — Survivor Outreach Services recently<br />
sponsored a Ropes Course Event for families who have lost a<br />
Servicemember. The event was designed for all Utah survivor<br />
families who have had a loved one die while in uniform.<br />
The event was held at the National Ability Center (NAC)<br />
in Park City, Utah June 2. The NAC is a nonprofi t organization<br />
committed to the development of lifetime skills for people<br />
of all ages and abilities by providing affordable sports and<br />
recreational experiences in a nurturing and safe environment.<br />
The focus of the event was to have some fun in an<br />
atmosphere of group togetherness, while developing trust,<br />
overcoming fears and increasing self-esteem. Under the<br />
