The Acting Assistant Secretary of Health did not comment <strong>on</strong> the specific findings or<br />

recommendati<strong>on</strong>s in the report, but did offer four suggesti<strong>on</strong>s that could enhance the<br />

transiti<strong>on</strong> process to <str<strong>on</strong>g>Medicaid</str<strong>on</strong>g> managed care. They are helpful suggesti<strong>on</strong>s that warrant<br />

c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> by the States and HCFA. They c<strong>on</strong>cern the involvement of the State health<br />

departments in the managed care process, the need for broad stakeholder involvement in<br />

the process, the need to strengthen the integrati<strong>on</strong> of public health c<strong>on</strong>cerns into the<br />

change process, and the importance of strengthening compliance, m<strong>on</strong>itoring, and<br />

evaluati<strong>on</strong> at the State level.<br />
