Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pelican International
Inc.
Pelican International shaking things up for 2013!
LAVAL, QUEBEC, July 16, 2012 – For over 40 years, Pelican
International has been firmly committed to its mission of providing kayaks
for paddlers of every size, taste, skill level and budget. By consistently producing top
quality products at affordable prices, Pelican has become the world’s number one
manufacturer of plastic boats worldwide. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Pelican
continues to raise the bar with its introduction of sensational new products and features
for 2013.
Big news: Pelican launches premium midmarket line, “Pelican
Premium”
The new Pelican Premium line was designed for paddlers who want to invest a little
more in their kayak, but expect the same incredible value that is synonymous with the
Pelican brand. The Pelican Premium line offers improved performance hulls at minimal
additional cost. Hull shapes are optimized for each kayak type and offer enhanced
performance with increased stability, improved tracking or greater speed, depending on
the model. The kayaks, made of a new and improved polyethylene formulation, RAM-X
Premium, have improved aesthetic and performance properties. A special additive on
the deck gives them a premium, glossy finish. Many of the models have new, industryleading
features that add to their value statement. The 2013 line, which will include 4
sit-in and 4 sit-on-top models, also offers bigger, bolder graphics and product feature
call-outs.
According to Kelley Woolsey, Pelican’s Director of U.S. sales, “Our retailers, both large
and small, are looking for boats that are more fully featured at higher retail prices, with
etter margins… that’s what Pelican Premium is all about.” Simply stated, the Pelican
Premium line costs only “a little more buck for a lot more bang.”
NEW! Limited lifetime warranty on hulls
In other big news, beginning in 2013, all Pelican, Elie and Pelican Premium kayaks will
feature a limited lifetime warranty on their hulls. Other components and accessories will
continue to be warranted for one year, as always. Noel Basque, Pelican’s Executive
Director of Sales, explains, “We understand that our manufacturing process is different
than most other kayak manufacturers and we want to remove any doubt that may be in
the consumer’s mind about the quality of our kayaks. We know that our manufacturing
methods and exclusive materials produce the industry’s stiffest, strongest and most
durable polyethylene kayaks and we are ready to back that claim with a warranty that is
worthy of our product.”
More exciting news!
In 2013, Pelican International’s popular Pelican line will include both redesigned
products and brand new products. The 2013 Elie line will offer impressive product
upgrades, exciting new colour choices and bigger, bolder graphics.
Pelican International
Inc.
Elie adds new 10-‐foot models to its popular line of sit-‐on-‐top kayaks
LAVAL, QUEBEC, May 11, 2012 – Sit-‐on-‐top kayaks continue to gain popularity with
paddlers of all levels who appreciate their exceptional stability, ease of use, safety and
affordability.
In response to demand from kayak enthusiasts ranging from recreational paddlers to sports
fishermen, Pelican International’s Elie brand recently expanded its line of sit-‐on-‐top kayaks with
the addition of two new ten-‐foot models, the Gulf 100 XE and the 100XE Angler.
Comfort
While the hulls of sit-‐on-‐top kayaks are similar in shape to those of their traditional
counterparts, rather than sitting inside the kayak, sit-‐on-‐top paddlers sit on a molded-‐in
depression on top of the vessel. This feature offers added comfort, particularly for those with
larger body types, long legs or limited flexibility, who may feel less confined paddling a sit-‐on-‐
top.
Ease of use
Sit-‐on-‐top kayaks are ideal for new or intermediate paddlers or for those who use their kayaks
only for recreational outings, rather than for paddling expeditions. With a sit-‐on-‐top kayak
there is no need to practice Eskimo rolls or wet exits, because with an open deck rather than an
enclosed one, there is no risk of becoming trapped in the boat if it tips over.
Affordability
Sit-‐on-‐top kayaks are not only more comfortable and easier to maneuver than traditional
kayaks; they can also be less expensive. While some are constructed of fiberglass, most are
made from highly durable, inexpensive plastic.
Unsurpassed performance and durability
Like all Elie kayaks, the entire Gulf line is built using Pelican’s lightweight, yet exceptionally
durable Poly-‐XR material. Pelican is the leading North American kayak manufacturer to use
Twin Sheet Thermoforming (TST) technology, which allows the company to use this higher
grade of plastic, resulting in lightweight kayaks that offer unparalleled rigidity, exceptional
impact and breakage resistance and superior safety. These qualities, along with their generous
list of features, continue to make the Gulf line of sit-‐on-‐top kayaks the best value on the water
today.
NEW FOR 2012: Ten-‐Foot Models
Gulf 100XE
Lightweight and easy to handle, the all new 10-‐foot Gulf 100XE is a stable, easy to paddle sit-‐
on-‐top kayak. Ideal for exploring local lakes and calm rivers, this model offers outstanding
value. It is self-‐bailing, comes with the Ergoflex Seating System with tilt-‐lock, a bow and
center Quick Lock hatch, a day hatch with dry bag and a large stern platform with bungee
system. It also features two side open storage compartments, accessory eyelets, adjustable
oversize foot pegs, a bottle holder, keel extension and bow and stern ergonomic carrying
handles.
Gulf 100XE Angler
The Gulf 100XE Angler was designed for those seeking a higher performance fishing kayak on a
smaller scale. This 10-‐foot self-‐bailing kayak is exceptionally stable and equipped with
performance, comfort and fishing features that include the Ergoflex Seating System with tilt-‐
lock, a bow and center Quick Lock hatch, day hatch with dry bag, a stern storage platform with
bungee system, two side open storage compartments, accessory eyelets, adjustable oversize
foot pegs, a bottle holder, bow and stern ergonomic carrying handles, side ergonomic carrying
handles with paddle tie-‐downs, keel extension and cleat. Its high end fishing features include a
Scotty TM swivel rod holder and two additional rod holders.
ALSO AVAILABLE: Twelve-‐Foot Models
Gulf 120XE
The Gulf 120XE was designed for paddlers seeking a higher performance sit-‐on-‐top kayak. This
ultra-‐stable, 12-‐foot, self-‐bailing kayak is built for comfort, ergonomics and performance. Its
comfortable Ergoflex Seating System with tilt lock prevents thigh fatigue. Bow and center
Quick Lock hatches, a day hatch with dry bag, a stern storage platform with bungee system and
two side open compartments provide ample space to stow gear. It also features accessory
eyelets, adjustable oversize foot pegs, a bottle holder, a keel extension and side ergonomic
carrying handles with paddle tie-‐downs.
Gulf 120XE Angler
This 12-‐foot self-‐bailing kayak is a fully equipped kayak fishing boat. Built for comfort,
ergonomics and performance, its unique features include an easy-‐access angled front hatch,
the Ergoflex Seating System with tilt-‐lock to prevent thigh fatigue and a storage platform with
bungee system. It also features a Fluid Steering System rudder, a bow and center Quick Lock
Pelican International
Inc.
Pelican offers paddlers as much fun as they can “stand” with four new
stand-‐up paddleboards for 2012!
LAVAL, QUEBEC, April 3, 2012 – Once again, Pelican International is at the
forefront of boating innovation with its newly expanded line of stand-‐up paddleboards
(SUPs). Currently one of the world’s fastest growing water sports, stand-‐up paddle boarding
offers an exciting and affordable water adventure for the entire family.
Stand up paddle boarding originated in Hawaii in the early 1960s, when experienced surfers
used to stand on their long boards and paddle out using outrigger paddles to photograph
tourists learning to surf. The experienced surfers enjoyed the visibility offered by stand-‐up
paddle boarding, as their standing position offered a view both deeper into the water and
further across its surface. Many compared it to walking on water and stand-‐up paddle boarding
quickly became a popular water sport in its own right.
In addition to the impressive views offered by boarders’ standing position, paddle boarding
offers an effective full body workout, making it an ideal cross-‐training option for skiers,
snowboarders and other athletes. But perhaps the best reason for its growing popularity is the
fact stand-‐up paddle boarding requires minimal equipment and can be enjoyed on just about
any body of water, from light ocean surf to lakes and rivers—no waves required.
In response to the growing popularity of the sport, Pelican returns with its original SUP, the
Flow 106X, and introduces four new models for 2012:
Flow 106X: Pelican’s original stand-‐up paddleboard, this highly durable, yet affordable 10’6”
board is made of twin sheet thermoformed RAM-‐X high molecular weight polyethylene. The
Flow’s solid construction provides exceptional stability for riders of any level. Features include:
• Anti-‐slip, padded deck pad providing superior comfort and secure footing
• Bottom grooves for improved tracking
• Four carrying handles and center grab-‐handle for easier transport
• Elastic bungee cords in bow to allow gear storage on deck
• Flexible rubber fin that bends and won’t break on rocks or other hard surfaces
• Smaller fin size that allows paddling in shallower bodies of water
• Easy conversion by adding optional sit-‐on-‐top kayak seat (purchased separately)
New for 2012:
Flow 106: This new model, also 10’6” long, is made using the same proprietary twin sheet
thermoformed RAM-‐X technology as the Flow 106X, but the 106 is a more basic model
designed to bring Stand Up Paddling within reach of as many paddlers as possible. With a
suggested retail price of $399, the Flow 106 offers many of the features found on the Flow
106X such as:
• Anti-‐slip, padded deck pad providing superior comfort and secure footing
• Bottom grooves for improved tracking
• Four carrying handles and center grab-‐handle for easier transport
• Flexible rubber fin that bends and won’t break on rocks or other hard surfaces
• Smaller fin size that allows paddling in shallower bodies of water
Surge 10.4 and Surge 11.4: For the most discerning stand-‐up paddlers, these 10’4” and 11’4”
boards are constructed of a polyethylene outer shell over a closed cell polyurethane inner core
to produce a lighter board. Both have anti-‐slip deck pads and removable fibreglass fins.
Vibe 80: This 8’ board is scaled for children and smaller paddlers. The board’s unique concave
standing surface provides more secure footing and greater stability. It offers a molded front
handle and center grab-‐handle, an anti-‐slip textured surface, two lateral molded fins and one
flexible central removable fin, as well as an integrated bottle holder.
With Pelican’s newly expanded line of affordable and versatile stand-‐up paddleboard options,
there has never been a better time to get into the world’s fastest growing water sport.
Regardless of size, age, proficiency or budget, Pelican has a board for all Stand Up Paddling
enthusiasts.
Pelican International
Inc.
Pelican International’s feature-‐packed “Pulse” series of kayaks aims
to get more paddlers on the water for as little as $229.
LAVAL, QUEBEC, March 5, 2012 – Outdoor enthusiasts who have been waiting for a kayak
that offers impressive performance at an affordable price are in luck this year. Pelican
International, world leader in boating innovation, recently announced that as a result of the
company’s ongoing efforts in research and development and its continuous investment in the
latest boat building technology, Pelican’s 2012 offerings will include the “Pulse” family of
kayaks, enabling paddlers to get onto the water for as little as $229 (MSRP).
The “Pulse” line consists of 5 sit-‐in kayak models, including two “angler” models equipped with
specialized fishing accessories such as swivel rod holders and flush mount rod holders. The line
ranges in price from $229 for a basic 10-‐foot model to $499 for a fully equipped 12-‐foot angling
kayak. Pelican’s newest family-‐friendly recreational kayaks are simple, economical, versatile
kayaks built on a new hull platform that provides the perfect balance between lively
performance and stability. All models represent incomparable value in their respective classes.
Superior kayak building technology
In addition to exceptional affordability, Pelican kayaks offer unsurpassed performance and
durability. Since 1968, the company has developed several exclusive boat building materials,
including RAM-‐X , a multi-‐layer material that has become the benchmark of quality in the
industry for its high impact-‐resistance, its ability to regain its initial shape after a violent impact
and its low-‐maintenance, UV-‐protected exterior finish.
Pelican is also the only North American kayak manufacturer to use Twin Sheet Thermoforming
(TST) technology. This technology allows the company to use higher grades of plastic, resulting
in stiffer, lighter, more durable products. The combination of Pelican’s proprietary materials
with the TST process results in a lightweight kayak that offers unparalleled rigidity, exceptional
impact and breakage resistance and superior safety.
Environmentally responsible
As a company that promotes enjoyment of the great outdoors, Pelican remains firmly
committed to protecting the environment. The company recycles 99.9% of the scrap created
during the manufacturing process and uses post-‐industrial recycled plastic in over half of the
“I’m thrilled to have partnered with Pelican International in the Northeast Market and the
timing couldn’t be better, given the rapidly changing dynamics we are now experiencing in
the industry,” said Remsing. “I’ve always been fascinated with technological advances in
paddle sports, as I feel it gives my firm a competitive edge in the marketplace. In my
opinion, Pelican’s innovative Twin-‐Sheet Thermoforming process is a game changer. Let’s
see… lighter, stiffer, stronger and less expensive – what’s not to like? The rapid growth
we’ve seen in market share for both Pelican and Elie Kayaks is a testament to that fact.”
In business for over 40 years and with over 1.5 million boats sold world-wide, Pelican is
not only renowned for the diversity of its line of products, but also for its superior
technology and craftsmanship. In order to achieve peak performance, Pelican’s kayaks
allows Pelican to use this higher grade of plastic, resulting not only in a kayak that
offers improved performance characteristics such as stiffness that provides the paddler
with a more agile and responsive kayak, but also a more durable vessel.
Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUPs)
In 2011, Pelican introduced the Flow 106X stand-up paddleboard. For 2012, Pelican
has added the basic Flow 106 and two new lighter foam-core stand-up paddleboards
