Racing
At a meeting of the Gatineau Ski Zone
this Spring, an important change was made
in the age requirements of the Midget
competitor. A Midget, now, for the purposes
of racing, is a child who has not
reached his fourteenth birthday prior to
September 1st of the current year. In
other words the age limit has been raised
by about one year. This now conforms
with age limits of the Laurentian Zone and
the Nancy Greene Little League.
Kent Boucher, the Vice President of
the Ottawa Ski Club, who has successfully
chaired the Midget Racing Program committee
for the past few years is turning the
reins over to Don and Cynthia Reid this
season. Don and Cynthia have been active
in Midget Racing for a number of years
and are well qualified to head up this
program.
In the 1968 racing season the Ottawa
Ski Club held twelve Gatineau Zone and
club events, attended by 760 children.
This enthusiastic attendance certainly endorses
the popularity of this program.
The opening races this year, a prelim
inary Giant Slalom and Slalom are scheduled
for Sunday, January 5, '69 at II :00
a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on the Marshall Hill.
These races are open to any O.S.C. Midget
and as usual will be used to grade the chil
dren either "A" or "B". Only the "A" rated
competitors will be permitted to enter the
Gatineau Zone Alpine events. The Nordic
events are open to all Midgets.
The Gatineau Zone has been awarded
a Quebec Division Midget race this year.
The date and location will be announced in
the near future. Consideration is being
given this year to the formation of a Nancy
Greene Little League for the "B" rated mid
gets only by the Gatineau Zone. There
will be more on this in the next bulletin.
Doug Livingstone, our Midget racing
coach, has issued a call to all competitors
for training sessions, which begin on Satur
day, January 4, '69. The children should
meet Doug at the Slalom Hill tow shack
at 10:30 a.m. The Midgets are also invited
to attend the Gatineau Zone Christmas
clinic. For further information, please
phone the Zone office at 237-3395.
