CD23(1B12)<br />

Anti-CD23 mouse monoclonal antibody. A B-cell antibody<br />

that is useful to differentiate between B-CLL and B-SLLs<br />

that are CD23-positive from mantle cell lymphomas and<br />

small cleaved lymphomas that are CD23-negative. This<br />

antibody reacts with the antigen that is found on a subpopulation<br />

of peripheral blood cells, B lymphocytes, and on<br />

EBV transformed B lymphoblastoid cell lines.<br />

CD24<br />

An antigen that is a glycoprotein found on B cells, granulocytes,<br />

interdigitating cells, and epithelial cells. The CD24<br />

antigen, with a molecular weight of 41/38 kDa, is expressed<br />

on B cells from the late pro-B cell stage and is lost before<br />

the plasma cell stage. It may be a homolog in humans of<br />

murine heat-stable antigen (HSA) or J11d.<br />

CD25<br />

A single chain glycoprotein, often referred to as the α<br />

chain of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL2R) or the Tac antigen,<br />

that has a molecular weight of 55 kDa and is present<br />

on activated T and B cells and activated macrophages. It<br />

functions as a receptor for IL2. Together with the β chain<br />

of the IL2R (p75, molecular weight of 75 kDa), the CD25<br />

antigen forms a high affinity receptor complex for IL2.<br />

The gene for IL2R has been located as a single gene on<br />

chromosome 10. It associates with CD122 and complexes<br />

with the IL2Rβγ high-affinity receptor. It facilitates T cell<br />

growth.<br />

CD26<br />

An antigen (molecular weight of 110 kDa) that is a single<br />

chain glycoprotein. It is present on activated T and B cells<br />

and also on macrophages, bile canaliculi, and splenic<br />

sinusoidal lining cells. It has recently been shown to be a<br />

dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), which is a serine-type<br />

protease, and may play a role in cell proliferation together<br />

with the CD25 antigen. Although the CD4 molecule is<br />

requisite for binding HIV particles, it is not sufficient for<br />

efficient entry of the virus and infection. The cofactor is<br />

dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), also termed CD26.<br />

CD27<br />

A T cell antigen (molecular weight of 110 kDa) that is a<br />

disulfide-linked homodimer of two polypeptide chains,<br />

each with a molecular weight of 55 kDa. It is found on a<br />

subpopulation of thymocytes, on the majority of mature T<br />

cells, and on transformed B lymphocytes. CD27 antigen<br />

expression is unregulated on activated cells.<br />

CD28<br />

A T cell low affinity receptor that interacts with B7 costimlatory<br />

molecules to facilitate T lymphocyte activation. More<br />

specifically, B7-1 and B7-2 ligands are expressed on the surfaces<br />

of activated antigen-presenting cells (APCs). Signals<br />

from CD28 to the T cell elevate expression of high affinity<br />

interleukin-2 (IL2) receptor and increase the synthesis of<br />

numerous cytokines, including IL2. CD28 regulates the<br />

responsiveness of T cells to antigen when they are in contact<br />

with APCs. It serves as a costimulatory receptor because<br />

its signals are synergistic with those provided by the T cell<br />

antigen receptor (TCR-CD3) in promoting T cell activation<br />

and proliferation. Without the signal from TCR-CD3,<br />

the signal of CD28 is only able to stimulate minimal T cell<br />

proliferation and may even lead to T cell unresponsiveness.<br />

CD29<br />

An antigen (molecular weight of 130 kDa) that is very widely<br />

distributed on human tissues (e.g., nerve, connective tissue,<br />

endothelium), as well as on many white cell populations. The<br />

structure recognized is now known to be the platelet gpIIa, the<br />

integrin β-1 chain, the common β subunit of very late antigens<br />

(VLA) 1 to 6, and the fibronectin receptor. The CD29 antigen<br />

is termed gpIIa in contrast to CD31, which is called gpIIa′.<br />

Together with α 1 chain (CDw49), it forms a heterodimeric<br />

complex. CD29 associates with CD49a in VLA-1 integrin.<br />

Antibodies against CD29 appear to define a subset of cells<br />

among CD4-positive T cells which provide help for antibody<br />

production. Like the antibody belonging to CD45RO (UCHL1),<br />

CD29 antibodies appear to be reciprocal (when T4 positive<br />

cells are analyzed) to those of CD45RA antibodies against the<br />

B-cell-restricted form of leukocyte common antigen (LCA).<br />

This form recognizes a T cell subset of CD4-positive cells<br />

suppressing antibody production. The molecule is involved in<br />

the mediation of cell adhesion to cells or matrix, especially in<br />

conjunction with CD49.<br />

CD30<br />

A molecule (molecular weight of 105 kDa) that is a single<br />

chain glycoprotein, also referred to as the Ki-1 antigen,<br />

present on activated T and B cells, embryonal carcinoma<br />

cells, and Hodgkin and Reed–Sternberg cells. It is also<br />

found on a minority of non-Hodgkin lymphomas (referred<br />

to as anaplastic large-cell lymphomas), with a characteristic<br />

anaplastic morphology.<br />

CD31<br />

An antigen (molecular weight of 140 kDa) that is a single<br />

chain membrane glycoprotein. It is found on granulocytes,<br />

monocytes, macrophages, B cells, platelets, and endothelial<br />

cells. Although it is termed gpIIa′, it is different from the<br />

CD29 antigen. At present, its function is unknown. It may<br />

be an adhesion molecule. Also called PECAM-1 (platelet<br />

endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1).<br />
