PCI, or Peripheral Component Interconnect, is a system which allows I/O devices to operate at speeds nearing the speed the CPU itself uses when communicating with its special components. This section covers some very technical items and it is strongly recommended that only experienced users should make any changes to the default settings. Primary Video Controller This setting specifies which graphic card is your primary graphics adapter. PCI Latency Timer This item controls how long each PCI device can hold the bus before another takes over. When set to higher values, every PCI device can conduct transactions for a longer time and thus improve the effective PCI bandwidth. For better PCI performance, you should set the item to higher values. PCI Slot 1/2 IRQ This setting specifies IRQ for PCI devices. IRQ Resources Setup Press and you will enter the sub-menu of the items. IRQ Resources list IRQ 3/4/5/7/9/10/11/12/14/15 for users to set each IRQ a type depending on the type of device using the IRQ. Settings are: PCI Device For Plug & Play compatible devices designed for PCI bus architecture. Reserved The IRQ will be reserved for further request.
BIOS Setup DMA Resources Setup Press and you will enter the sub-menu of the items.DMA Resources 0/1/3/5/ 6/7 for setting determine if BIOS should remove a DMA from the available DMAs passed to devices that are configurable by the system BIOS. The available DMA pool is determined by reading the NVRAM. If more DMAs must be removed from the pool, the end user can reserve the DMA. 3-19
