Preliminary Round
The Preliminary Round consists of 29 clubs. The clubs enter the competition according to their
coefficient ranking and therefore, the clubs ranked 21 to 49 enter the competition in this round
and are drawn into 8 groups, divided into five groups of 4 teams, plus three groups of 3 teams.
Teams are allocated in Group A to H, and their position in the group is determined by their
coefficient ranking, as shown below:
Position 1: teams ranked 21 to 28
Position 2: teams ranked 29 to 36
Position 3: teams ranked 37 to 40
Position 4: potentially teams ranked 41 to 49
The winner of each group in the Preliminary Round qualifies for the Main Round.

Draw Procedure
For the purpose of the Preliminary Round draw, teams are allocated in ascending order from
group A to group H.
Hosts
Pot 1: 8 hosts (8 balls)
Pot 2: Group A to H (8 balls)
Step 1: We first draw the hosts, allocating them according to their coefficient ranking. Then we
will draw which are the 3 groups composed of three teams.
Specific procedure
As we have three hosts allocated in position 4, we will proceed as follows: once the 3 groups of
three teams are determined, we will be in a position to know how many clubs may be allocated to
position 4 (min. 2 if none of the 3-team group are hosted by a team in position 4, and max. 5 if all

the 3-team groups are hosted by a team in position 4). We will therefore “create” a pot with the
bottom-ranked teams according to the number needed in both position 4 and also in position 3.
Position 4 ( less hosts, 2, 3, 4 or 5 balls)
Pot 3: Teams to be allocated to position 4
Step 2: We then draw the teams into position 4, from group A to H, missing out the groups which
already have hosts assigned to that position and the group of three teams, if any.
Position 3 (less hosts, 3, 4, 5 or 6 balls)
Pot 4: Teams to be allocated to position 3
Step 3: We then draw the teams into position 3, from group A to H, missing out the groups which
already have a host assigned to that position, and the possible positions 3 which has been
blocked in the above-mentioned specific procedure.
Position 2 (less host, 7 balls)
Pot 5: Teams ranked 29 to 36
Step 4: We then draw the 8 teams into position 2, from group A to H, missing out the group
which already have a host assigned to that position.
Position 1 (less hosts, 5 balls)
Pot 6: Teams ranked 21 to 28
Step 5: We finally draw the remaining teams into position 1, from group A to H, missing out the
groups which already have a host assigned to that position
All matches must be completed by 1 September 2013 at the latest.
Main Round
The Main Round consists of 16 clubs, plus the 8 Preliminary Round group winners, i.e. 24 clubs.
The clubs enter the competition according to their coefficient ranking and therefore, the clubs
ranked 5 to 20 enter the competition directly into this round. The Main Round is composed of 6
groups of 4 teams. Teams are allocated into Group 1 to 6 and their position in the group is
determined by their coefficient ranking, as shown below:
Position 1: teams ranked 5 to 10
Position 2: teams ranked 11 to 16
Position 3: teams ranked 17 to 20 and two Preliminary Round group winners
Position 4: 6 teams out of 8 Preliminary group winners*

*Note: As there are eight Preliminary Round winners to be allocated into 6 groups, the seventh
and eighth group winner will be allocated into the first available position 3. Depending on the
position of the two hosts in position 3, two groups will contain two Preliminary Round group
winners.
The winner and runner-up of each group in the Main Round qualify for the Elite Round (19-24
November 2013), together with the top 4 clubs in Europe, i.e. title-holder Kairat Almaty
(Kazakhstan), MFK Dynamo Moscow (Russia), FC Barcelona (Spain), and Sporting Clube de
Portugal (Portugal).

according to their coefficient ranking

Step 7: We draw all 8 winners from the Preliminary Round into
position 4 from group 1 to 6, with the remaining two being
allocated into the first available group, in position 3.
Position 3 (less hosts, 2 balls)

Step 8: We then draw the remaining team into the last available position 3, i.e. missing out the
groups, which already have a host/Preliminary Round Group winner assigned to that position

Step 9: We then draw the four teams into position 2, from group 1 to 6, missing out the groups
which already have a host assigned to that position
