Minutes of Meeting
Subject of meeting: Ordinary meeting
Date of meeting: 14 th January 2011, 19:30 – 22:00.
Location of meeting: The Corner’s Clock, Plaza del Peru 4, Madrid.
The attendance was noted and the following apologies received: The Chairman.
Members present: Vice-Chairman, Retired Members Officer, Treasurer, Communications Officer,
Industrial and Academic Institutions (IAI) Officer and the Secretary.
The following are the minutes of meeting held:
1. The minutes of meeting held 19 th November 2010 were distributed and approved by all
members present.
2. The Retired Members Officer informed that the Opel Plant remains closed to visits. The
Retired Members Officer shall inform the Branch of any future change in this status. A
proposed date for this visit was September 2011.
3. Agreed that for each future event an Event Co-ordinator shall be assigned who shall handle all
the event arrangement details.
4. The Vice-Chairman informed that the Airbus visit is foreseen to go ahead in last week of
March. A maximum of 60 persons shall be able to attend and for all attendees a copy of
identification (DNI/Passports) must be provided in advance.
5. It was informed by the Vice-Chairman that the speaker for the Composites lecture is available
and that the Branch should decide and inform of date. The date for the lecture was proposed
as being for May or June.
6. The Vice-Chairman informed the Branch that the lecture on The Environment should be put on
hold as the speaker cannot be confirmed. As replacement the Vice-Chairman informed of a
contact who would agree to do lecture on Six Sigma. The Six Sigma Lecture was proposed
and agreed to be organised for the 3 rd week of February. The details of which shall be
finalised at next meeting.
7. The IAI Officer informed of two potential speakers being available to give lectures: ‘Legislation
and taxation on the renewable energy and environmental sectors’ proposed as being for May
20th January 2011

or June, depending of outcome of point 5; ‘Developing human capital in engineering
corporations’ proposed as being for November.
8. IAI Officer informed on a visit to ASICMA association last December, in which IMechE was
invited to participate on an International Congress on Engineering and Consultancy for the
second semester in 2011. Further discussion will follow on a meeting in February with such
association.
9. Agreed that for all future events the Branch should make more use of publicity. The mailing
list should be regularly used and the Branch could adopt leaflets/posters for Universities and
places of work.
10. Agreed that the IAI Officer should correspond with Formula Student contact in Barcelona in
order establish the relationship with the Branch and to pursue the setting up of a Panel in
Barcelona.
11. Retired Members Officer and Communications Officer agreed to co-ordinate in order to
generate a Powerpoint presentation to give overview of the IMechE and the Branch to be used
as showcase in future meetings/events. The Retired Members Officer informed to contact HQ
to obtain any useful information to help in this. The Secretary shall contact with HQ in order
to request further IMechE handout literature.
12. The Communications Officer and Secretary informed that the Branch had been selected to be
included in the April edition International Newsletter from the IMechE. Agreed that the
Communications Officer and the Secretary shall co-ordinate in order to finalise the report due
to be submitted in March.
13. Social networking sites were discussed and the Branch’s potential membership to them.
Informed that HQ had been contacted to request the IMechE stance on such membership. The
IMechE has existing an International IMechE account on the ‘Linked In’ website and is planning
to create a European IMechE account on Facebook in the future. Mr. Alejo Sinde Diez reported
that he would be able to look into the prospect and best method of joining Linked In group
and inform the Branch of best course of action based on his familiarity with said network.
14. Agreed that the Retired Members Officer shall contact HQ in order to obtain a Retired Members
list of contacts.
15. Agreed that future meeting should start at later time of typically 20:00.
16. The date of next meeting to be held was proposed as 27 th January 2011, with the venue to be
confirmed.
